The Business Process Owner (BPO) Director for Trade Systems is accountable for the design, standardization, and continuous advancement of MedTech's system-enabled global trade processes, with Global Trade Services (GTS) and SAP S/4HANA at the core.
The role leads the deployment of GTS Edition for HANA (E4H) and adjacent capabilities that drive automation, real-time screening, and support end-to-end audit traceability.
The BPO, acting on guidance and direction from the Global Trade Controls organization, ensures GTS paired with SAP S/4 capabilities enables the Global Trade Controls Standards within scope, while phasing out fragmented stand-alone tools and legacy GTS instances.
The role is pivotal to achieving the future state, digitally enabled maturity of global trade for MedTech, in alignment with the Global Trade Controls and Global Trade Operations MedTech digital capability roadmap.
Subject Matter ExpertiseDeep knowledge of global trade compliance: restricted/sanctioned party screening, export and import license management, embargo screening, product classification (HS & ECN), and Free Trade Agreement qualification and certification.
Strong understanding of global trade controls standards, customs procedures, duty reduction programs, and the regulatory landscape governing export/import in a multinational MedTech environment.
Familiarity with special customs procedures (FTZ, inward processing, bonded warehouses), customs valuation, and country-of-origin determination.
Systems Knowledge & Technical AcumenHands-on experience with SAP GTS ideally including GTS E4H and its integration with SAP S/4HANA master and transactional data.
Understanding of compliance automation, real-time screening/blocking, and reporting/analytics for trade operations.
Exposure to customs broker EDI/API enablement, electronic self-filing, and document management for trade recordkeeping.
Proven business process ownership credentials designing, standardizing, and governing E2E processes, including installation of RACI, Performance KPI’s and Governance.
Ability to translate regulatory and compliance requirements into scalable, system-enabled processes and operating models.
Leadership & Stakeholder ManagementSenior leadership presence with the ability to influence across compliance, supply chain, IT, legal, and regional trade operations.
Strong program and change management skills; able to drive standardization and adoption while phasing out legacy tools and manual processes.
Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills across global, cross-functional, and multicultural teams.
Qualifications & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Supply Chain, International Business, Law, Engineering, Information Systems, or related relevant fields; advanced degree or professional trade compliance certification preferred.10+ years of progressive experience in global trade compliance, customs, or international trade operations, with significant time in a regulated industry.
Demonstrated experience as a business process owner or lead on SAP GTS and/or SAP S/4 trade compliance implementations.
Experience operating in a global matrix organization and managing multi-region program delivery.
Key Performance Indicators (Success Measures)Coverage of Global Trade Controls Standards enabled via GTS and SAP S/4On-time deployment of GTS E4H and Trade Operations capabilities across MT DCs.
Migration from multiple GTS versions/clients to a single global instance and decommissioning of stand-alone tools.
Implementation of the new Trade Operating Model executing and driving the systematic Trade Operations capabilities.
Expanded systematic FTA capability deployment and reduced E2E processing cycle time for classification and approval, driving tariff and duty savings.
Audit readiness support — completeness of audit trails, controls, and operational metrics for internal and external audits.
Key Stakeholders & Reporting Global Trade Controls (GTC) — Overall J&J Trade risk owner, Global Trade Standards owner, risk management and controls, and regulatory advisory.
Global Trade & Transport Operations (GTTO) — operating model and execution.MT TranSCend Program Leadership and JJT — master data, integration, and digital platform delivery.
