Director of Human Resources
Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources is a hands-on leadership role responsible for leading and executing the company's human resources functions while fostering a positive, high-performing workplace culture. This position serves as a trusted advisor to employees and leadership, overseeing employee relations, performance management, talent acquisition, employee development, compliance, and HR operations.
The Director of Human Resources partners closely with company leadership to develop and implement people strategies that support organizational goals, employee engagement, retention, and growth while ensuring compliance with employment laws and company policies. This role combines strategic leadership with day-to-day HR execution and employee support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Employee Relations & Workplace Culture
- Serve as a trusted resource and point of contact for employees and management regarding HR-related matters.
- Build and maintain strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Promote a positive, respectful, and inclusive workplace culture.
- Maintain regular employee touchpoints to understand employee concerns, engagement, and workplace needs.
- Address employee concerns, conflicts, and workplace issues in a timely and professional manner.
- Partner with leadership to resolve employee relations matters while ensuring consistent and fair application of company practices.
- Provide guidance and support regarding workplace policies, expectations, and performance concerns.
- Maintain appropriate documentation related to employee relations matters.
- Identify trends and recommend improvements to enhance employee experience and retention.
- Lead employee engagement initiatives that support organizational culture and workforce satisfaction.
- Employee Development & Performance Management
- Partner with leadership to support employee growth, development, and retention strategies.
- Support managers with performance management processes and employee development discussions.
- Coordinate and participate in employee performance reviews.
- Assist managers in setting performance expectations and providing meaningful feedback.
- Help identify training, development, and career growth opportunities for employees.
- Encourage ongoing communication between employees and leadership regarding goals and professional development.
- Maintain performance management records and documentation.
- Recommend and implement programs that support employee development and succession planning.
- Recruiting & Talent Acquisition
- Lead recruiting efforts to attract and retain qualified talent.
- Partner with leadership and hiring managers to understand staffing needs and workforce requirements.
- Manage candidate communication and recruiting processes.
- Coordinate interviews and ensure a positive candidate experience.
- Develop and maintain recruiting processes that align with company culture and values.
- Monitor workforce planning needs and future staffing requirements.
- Support onboarding activities to ensure successful employee integration and retention.
- Build and maintain talent pipelines for current and future organizational needs.
- Safety Support
- Partner with the Safety Manager to support workplace safety initiatives and employee awareness.
- Assist with communication and documentation related to workplace incidents, injuries, and safety concerns.
- Participate in incident review processes as needed.
- Support collection and organization of incident documentation.
- Assist with employee communication and follow-up related to safety matters.
- Support employee recognition and engagement activities related to workplace safety initiatives.HR Administration & Compliance
- Provide oversight of HR administration functions, policies, procedures, and employee documentation.
- Ensure employee personnel files and HR records are accurate, organized, secure, and compliant with company requirements.
- Oversee management of both physical and electronic employee records, including:
- Hard-copy personnel files maintained in company records.
- Digital employee records maintained through SharePoint and other HR systems.
- Lead policy development, updates, implementation, and employee communication efforts.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive employee information.
- Prepare and analyze HR reports, workforce metrics, and tracking tools as needed.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Support internal audits and continuous improvement of HR policies, procedures, and systems.
- Provide oversight of employee records management, PTO administration, and HR operational processes.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of employee personnel records and required documentation.
- Oversee PTO tracking and administration while ensuring consistency and compliance with company policies.
- Maintain and monitor HR calendars, deadlines, and recurring compliance activities.
- Track employee documentation and ensure timely completion of outstanding items.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, processes, and workflows to enhance efficiency and employee experience.
- Maintain HR operational reporting and workforce-related tracking tools.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field preferred.10+ years of progressive Human Resources experience, including employee relations, recruiting, performance management, and HR compliance.SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to move throughout office and field environments as needed.
