This position will lead the company’s human resources function and support a workforce of approximately 100–150 employees in a manufacturing environment. The company is located about 20 minutes west of O'Hare airport.
The HR Manager will be responsible for recruiting and selection, compensation and benefits, performance management, employee relations, training and development, HR compliance, and people-related risk management. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on, working closely with employees and managers, and helping build a strong culture in a growing industrial business.
Lead recruiting and selection efforts, including job postings, candidate screening, interview coordination, offer preparation, and onboarding
Partner with managers to identify staffing needs and support workforce planning
Administer employee compensation, benefits, payroll-related HR processes, and employee records
Manage HR systems, employee data, and administrative processes in Paylocity and other HR platforms
Support performance management processes, including reviews, goal setting, coaching, corrective action, and employee development plans
Help develop training programs, career development paths, and learning opportunities for employees
Serve as a point of contact for employee questions related to policies, benefits, payroll, attendance, PTO, and general HR matters
Support a positive employee culture through communication, engagement, employee events, and consistent HR practices
Maintain personnel files, HR records, compliance documentation, and confidential employee information
Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws, workplace policies, OSHA-related requirements, and other people-related legal and regulatory obligations
Partner with leadership to address employee relations matters, workplace concerns, investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution
Help improve HR processes, policies, reporting, and internal communication as the company continues to grow
Work closely with management, finance, payroll, operations, and employees to ensure HR practices support the needs of the business
Strong knowledge of human resources practices in a manufacturing, industrial, or business environment
Experience with recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, payroll support, benefits administration, and HR compliance
Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
Good judgment, problem-solving ability, and a practical approach to employee and business issues
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Comfortable working in a hands-on HR role where both strategic and administrative work are required
Experience with HRIS/payroll systems; Paylocity experience is strongly preferred
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and HR reporting tools
Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on deadlines
Interest in supporting a manufacturing business with a strong legacy and growth-oriented culture
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field.
Prior HR management, HR generalist, or HR business partner experience required.
Knowledge of employment law, benefits administration, payroll support, employee relations, performance management, and compliance practices is required.
Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or distribution environment is strongly preferred.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification is preferred.
