SPS Consulting is seeking a detail-oriented Financial Operations Analyst to support payment monitoring, financial risk oversight, reconciliation, and reporting activities within a complex, multi-unit organization.
The Financial Operations Analyst will monitor daily transactions processed through Stripe and related financial systems, assess fraud and operational risks, oversee disputes and chargebacks, investigate reconciliation exceptions, and escalate significant issues to management.
This position will also contribute to process improvements, financial controls, compliance activities, and the development of operational procedures and reporting tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor daily transaction activity, payment-processing workflows, settlement activity, dashboards, reports, and operational exceptions within Stripe and related systems.
- Identify, document, investigate, and escalate financial or operational issues requiring management attention.
- Coordinate with finance, information technology, cybersecurity, business units, advancement personnel, and other stakeholders.
- Monitor Stripe Radar alerts and review transactions identified as potentially high risk.
- Investigate suspicious activity, fraud trends, payment anomalies, and chargeback drivers.
- Maintain accurate fraud, incident, risk-assessment, and dispute-tracking logs.
- Recommend fraud-prevention controls, monitoring rules, and process enhancements.
- Monitor disputes and chargebacks and ensure responses are completed within established deadlines.
- Gather and organize supporting documentation for dispute responses.
- Analyze dispute outcomes and recommend corrective actions.
- Reconcile Stripe settlements, processing fees, refunds, chargebacks, reserve accounts, and holding-account activity.
- Investigate settlement discrepancies, delayed settlements, unreconciled transactions, and other payment-processing exceptions.
- Escalate unresolved reconciliation issues and provide recommendations for corrective action.
- Develop dashboards, operational reports, risk assessments, executive briefings, and financial exposure summaries.
- Support audits, internal controls, governance documentation, and PCI-DSS compliance activities.
- Develop standard operating procedures, reconciliation templates, monthly close procedures, and training materials.
- Provide knowledge transfer and transition support to internal staff.
- Support governance initiatives, process improvements, and operational efficiencies.
Reporting and Deliverables
The Financial Operations Analyst will be responsible for producing and maintaining deliverables such as:
- Daily payment-monitoring and high-level issue reports.
- Weekly summaries of monitoring activities, identified issues, and resolutions.
- A current-state assessment of payment operations and related documentation.
- Standard operating procedures for fraud monitoring, dispute management, and reconciliations.
- Fraud case logs, incident reports, and dispute-tracking reports.
- Weekly exposure summaries covering open disputes, chargebacks, high-risk transactions, and significant issues.
- Monthly settlement, bank, reserve, and holding-account reconciliation packages.
- Monthly executive dashboards and operational metrics.
- Quarterly fraud-trend analyses, risk assessments, and reserve-exposure analyses.
- Governance, compliance, and internal-control documentation.
- Staff training and knowledge-transfer materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with payment-processing platforms, preferably Stripe.
- Experience with fraud monitoring, financial risk assessment, dispute management, and chargeback oversight.
- Experience performing financial reconciliations and investigating transaction or settlement exceptions.
- Strong analytical, investigative, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to clearly document findings and communicate financial or operational risks to management.
- Knowledge of financial internal controls and PCI-DSS requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with financial systems and organizations consisting of multiple departments or business units.
- Ability to manage recurring reporting requirements and time-sensitive dispute deadlines.
- CPA and/or Certified Fraud Examiner credentials are preferred but not required.
Pay: $87,000.00 - $108,000.00 per year
