K-W Urban Native Wigwam Project, a company incorporated under the laws of the Province of Ontario without share capital for the purpose of providing safe, secure and affordable housing for the Indigenous community in the Waterloo Region. For Canadian income tax purposes the Corporation qualifies as a not-for-profit organization which is exempt from income tax under the Income Tax Act.

K-W Urban Native Wigwam Project is a small Non-Profit housing corporation responsible for overseeing 44 scattered RGI unit housing portfolios under the HSA throughout Kitchener and a 30 unit affordable housing apartment in Cambridge. We may from time to time apply for additional funding programs available through the Region.

Seeking the accounting services from an individual with the following expertise.

• Thorough knowledge with Region of Waterloo financial reporting
• Payroll of 4-6 employees
• HST application, WSIB, staff benefits
• Multiple program reporting following Region of Waterloo guidelines
• Work with auditor under the NPO guidelines as directed by the Region of Waterloo
• Monthly Financial reporting to KUWNUP Board of Directors
• Attend monthly Board meetings for financial reporting
• Experience with Quick Books currently in use
• Manage rent allocations on the Shared Drive to track rents received and arrears.

Overall, financial management to accurately record all income and expenses for the period and reconcile all bank accounts, credit card statements, accounts receivable and accounts payable.

Ensure that HST, Payroll Deductions, WSIB and Employer Health Tax are accounted for and accurately filed on time to avoid interest and penalties and ensure the organization is in compliance and up to date on these reporting and remittances.

Additional information you may require.

Currently the books are in QuickBooks desktop but will need to be in QuickBooks online. QuickBooks is also used to process the payroll as well. The accounting is full cycle and includes all accounts payable and accounts receivable functions and data entry as well as biweekly payroll and month end adjusting entries.

The amount of time required to maintain the books is expected to be approximately the equivalent of 3-4 days per week, 8 hours per day. Once the individual is established in the role, the required time may be reduced to approximately 2-3 days per week. Reports to the Board of the Region, as well as year end audit working papers, may be required in addition to this time.
