Senior Business Development Manager – US West Coast

A rapidly growing life sciences company at the forefront of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and targeted sequencing technologies is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Senior Business Development Manager to lead growth across the US West Coast.
This is a high-impact opportunity for an accomplished life sciences commercial professional with a strong background in NGS, molecular diagnostics, or precision oncology. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving revenue growth through direct sales, strategic account development, and the creation of high-value partnerships across the region.
The role will have a particular focus on expanding the company's presence within the US precision oncology market, working closely with hospital systems, academic medical centers, molecular pathology laboratories, and clinical testing organizations. The successful candidate will play a key role in accelerating market adoption and establishing long-term commercial relationships across the US oncology landscape.
This position will report directly to the CEO and offers the opportunity to make a significant impact within a high-growth, entrepreneurial organization.
Key Responsibilities
US Oncology & Market Development
- Lead commercial growth across the US West Coast, with a particular focus on precision oncology and targeted sequencing applications.
- Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities with hospitals, academic medical centers, molecular pathology laboratories, and clinical testing organizations.
- Develop and execute market strategies to strengthen the company's position within the US oncology and molecular diagnostics landscape.
- Build and leverage relationships with strategic partners to accelerate customer acquisition and market expansion.
- Maintain a strong understanding of competitive oncology and molecular testing solutions and provide actionable market intelligence to senior leadership.
- Support customers in understanding the appropriate research-use-only positioning of products within relevant laboratory workflows.
Business Development & Sales Execution
- Develop and execute a strategic territory and business development plan aligned with broader company objectives.
- Identify, qualify, and close high-value commercial opportunities.
- Own the full sales cycle, from initial prospecting and lead generation through technical presentations, negotiations, and contract completion.
- Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline with accurate forecasting and regular reporting.
- Prioritize high-value opportunities within complex oncology, molecular diagnostics, and research laboratory environments.
Technical & Commercial Leadership
- Act as a trusted technical and commercial advisor throughout the sales process, communicating complex scientific and clinical value propositions to a range of stakeholders.
- Engage effectively with scientists, laboratory directors, R&D leaders, CTOs, procurement teams, and other key decision-makers.
- Provide market feedback, competitive intelligence, and insight into regulatory and commercial trends to support product development and business strategy.
- Work cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure market requirements and customer feedback are incorporated into future commercial and product strategies.
Account & Relationship Management
- Develop and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key customers, partners, and industry stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to expand existing accounts and drive customer retention and growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and successful implementation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
- Advanced degree (MS, PhD, or MBA) is advantageous.
- 7+ years of progressive commercial, sales, or business development experience within life sciences, genomics, molecular diagnostics, or a related sector.
- Strong knowledge of NGS workflows, sequencing platforms, bioinformatics, and genomic data analysis, with particular expertise in target enrichment and library preparation.
- Proven track record of delivering strong commercial results across the US West Coast.
- Established relationships with key accounts, partners, or decision-makers within the region.
- Demonstrated success selling into hospital systems, academic medical centers, molecular diagnostics laboratories, or clinical reference laboratories.
- Strong understanding of US LDT workflows, RUO regulatory considerations, and clinical laboratory purchasing processes.
- Comfortable managing complex, consultative sales cycles and operating independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel approximately 25% or more.
Preferred Experience
- Advanced degree in a relevant scientific or business discipline.
- Expertise in NGS, qPCR, precision oncology, or molecular diagnostics.
- Experience within a high-growth startup or entrepreneurial environment.
- Previous success commercializing precision oncology or molecular oncology solutions within US clinical, translational research, or laboratory markets.
- Existing relationships with oncology-focused LDT laboratories, molecular pathology groups, hospital systems, or clinical testing organizations.
