HR Manager (Part-Time): Own HR for a Growing Custom Millwork Shop

Pay: From $38.00 / hour (depending on experience)

Schlaegle Design Build Associates is a custom architectural woodwork shop in the Pittsburgh area. We build high-end millwork for commercial and residential projects, and we are growing. We are looking for an experienced, part-time HR Manager to own hiring and the day-to-day people work so our leaders can focus on the business.

This is a rare part-time seat with real ownership. You will run recruiting from job post to offer, onboard new hires, own our handbook and benefits, and be the person the team goes to. If you are an experienced HR generalist who wants to own the whole function on a flexible, part-time, hybrid schedule, this is for you.

What you'll do

• Own recruiting and hiring end to end: write and post jobs, review applicants, screen and schedule interviews, and keep our hiring managers moving
• Set up and run a simple applicant tracking system so no candidate falls through the cracks
• Run onboarding: paperwork, account and equipment setup, and a smooth first day and week
• Own the employee handbook and company policies: keep them current and clear
• Manage benefits and time off: open enrollment, 401k, and PTO / leave tracking
• Assist with running payroll using ADP Run
• Be the first point of contact for employee questions and everyday HR issues
• Keep employee records (I-9s, personnel files) complete and organized
• Coordinate company travel and events for the team
• Grow into compliance, offboarding, and training as you settle in

What we're looking for

• 3+ years of HR experience (generalist, HR manager, or an HR coordinator ready to step up)
• Comfortable owning HR solo for a small company, not just one piece of a big department
• Strong with recruiting and onboarding; organized and follows through
• Working knowledge of employment basics (I-9, PTO / leave, benefits); construction or trades experience a plus
• Professional, discreet, and good with people at every level
• Able to work a hybrid schedule with some regular on-site time in the Pittsburgh area
• Must pass a pre-employment background check
• A plus, not required: SHRM-CP / PHR certification, ADP experience, or a construction / trades background.
