POSITION SUMMARY

The Outside Account Manager (Outside AM) is a field selling role responsible for developing net new business and growing an assigned client base across California local government and education. This includes cities, counties, special districts, K-12 school districts and county offices of education, community colleges, and public and private universities.

The Outside AM owns the full sales cycle: territory planning, prospecting, decision maker meetings, solution development with our OEM partners, navigating public procurement, closing, and staying invested in the account through renewal growth. This is a hunter role for a relationship driven seller who knows, or wants to master, how California public agencies buy technology.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build and execute a territory plan for local government and education accounts, prioritizing agencies with active initiatives, funding, and modernization needs.
• Prospect consistently and secure meetings with IT, procurement, and executive decision makers; meetings preset and attended are the primary measure of this role.
• Manage the full opportunity lifecycle from qualification through close, including quotes, proposals, and formal responses to RFPs, RFQs, and informal solicitations.
• Navigate public sector procurement and contract vehicles, including cooperative purchasing agreements and California state contracting programs.
• Develop and maintain OEM and distribution relationships; coordinate account mapping, lunch and learns, workshops, and MDF funded events in the territory.
• Partner with the inside team on quoting, order processing, and renewals; remain the closer on net new business and stay invested in renewal growth through the residual program.
• Represent ANS at industry associations, conferences, and networking events serving local government and education.
• Maintain accurate pipeline, activity, and forecast data in CRM and submit the weekly activity report.ACTIVITY STANDARDS
• Meetings first. Meetings booked for the coming week and meetings attended carry the highest weight, including a minimum of one decision maker meeting per week.
• Weekly outreach. A combined weekly goal of calls and emails, tracked as a weekly total so outreach can be batched around travel, events, and meetings.
• Field presence. Regular attendance at networking events, association meetings, and OEM sponsored activities in the territory.COMPENSATION
• Base salary: $85,000 per year.
• Uncapped commission paid monthly on gross profit, with tiered rates that increase as monthly cumulative GP grows and margin accelerators that add points for higher margin deals.
• Renewal residuals for the life of the contract on business you source, contingent on account health check and customer satisfaction standards.
• Team gross profit bonus when the shared monthly team goal and CSAT standard are met.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 3+ years of technology sales experience, with public sector (SLED) experience strongly preferred; local government or education relationships in California are a significant plus.
• Working knowledge of public procurement processes, contract vehicles, and cooperative purchasing.
• Proven hunter with a track record of sourcing and closing net new business.
• Strong written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to executives and evaluation committees.
