About Lick EnergyThe Role
We’re hiring an in-market Field Marketing hire to own Lick Energy’s presence across Houston, Austin, and San Antonio.
Based in Austin (or Houston/San Antonio), you’ll plan and execute on-the-ground activations, build and lead a team of brand ambassadors, partner with retail and distributor accounts, and bring the brand to life everywhere our consumers spend time — from Houston tailgates to Austin festivals to San Antonio Fiesta and everywhere in between.
Whether we hire you as a Coordinator or a Manager, you’ll be part strategist, part doer, and 100% in-market. If you love being on the ground, building something from scratch, and watching real people fall in love with a brand you’re shaping — read on.
What You’ll Do
The role spans the activities below; how much you own end-to-end versus support depends on the level we hire you at.
Activate and Execute
- Plan, staff, and execute field activations across Houston, Austin, and San Antonio — sampling pop-ups, festivals, sports moments (Longhorn Country, Aggies, Astros, Rockets, Spurs), gym takeovers, college campus drops, rodeo activations, and retail demos
- Identify and secure local event partnerships, sponsorships, and grassroots opportunities across the three markets
- Manage on-site logistics: permits, equipment, sample inventory, vehicle rentals, signage, and day-of execution — including out-of-town activations
- Contribute to (or own, depending on level) the activation calendar and ensure every event ladders up to broader brand and sales priorities
Build and Lead the Brand Ambassador Team
- Recruit, onboard, train, and schedule a team of part-time brand ambassadors (1099 contractors) across Houston, Austin, and San Antonio
- Help build standardized onboarding, brand training, and event playbooks so every ambassador represents Lick consistently — whether they’re activating in Rice Village, on 6th Street, or at the Alamodome
- Coach the team in real time and provide feedback to drive performance, retention, and a strong on-brand vibe at every activation
- Approve timesheets, manage event-day staffing, and maintain a healthy ambassador roster across the three-market territory
Partner with Retail and Distribution
- Build relationships with key retail accounts, C-stores, gyms, and on-premise locations across the Texas Triangle to land in-store sampling, displays, and account-level activations
- Coordinate closely with our distributor and sales partners in each market to align field activity with sell-in priorities, new account launches, and seasonal pushes
- Track shelf presence, distribution gaps, and competitor activity across all three markets and surface insights back to the team
Capture, Report, and Iterate
- Capture content (photo, video, UGC) at every activation and feed it back to the brand and social teams
- Submit clean recap reports — sample counts, attendance estimates, qualitative learnings, photos — within 24 hours of every event
- Help manage (or own) the Texas field marketing budget; track spend against ROI and flag opportunities to reallocate
- Bring market intel — what’s working, what’s not, what consumers are saying in each market — to weekly syncs with HQ
What You Bring (Required at Either Level)
- At least 1+ year of experience in field marketing, brand ambassador programs, experiential marketing, event production, hospitality, or related on-the-ground brand work — ideally in beverage, CPG, fitness, or lifestyle
- Familiarity with at least one of the Texas Triangle markets; openness and excitement about getting to know the other two
- Strong organizational chops — you can juggle multiple events, deadlines, and stakeholders without dropping balls
- Comfortable with the physical side of the job: lifting up to 40 lbs, setting up and breaking down event booths, and being on your feet for full event days (in Texas heat)
- Excellent communicator — clear writing, confident in front of consumers and partners, and comfortable representing the brand
- Self-starter mentality with a startup mindset: scrappy, organized, adaptable, and energized by ambiguity
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and willingness to work nights and weekends as the event calendar requires
- Comfortable with regular travel between Houston, Austin, and San Antonio
- Proficient with the basics: Google Workspace, Excel, social platforms, and event/content tools (Canva, CapCut, etc.)
What Gets You Hired at the Manager Level
- 2–4+ years in field, experiential, or brand marketing — ideally in beverage, CPG, fitness, or lifestyle
- Track record of independently managing or leading a team of part-time staff, ambassadors, or volunteers
- Experience owning a market’s activation calendar, budget, and strategy end-to-end
- Existing relationships with retail accounts, distributors, event producers, venues, gyms, or college reps (UT Austin, Texas A&M, Rice, University of Houston, UTSA) in one or more of the three markets
- Experience activating at major Texas events (ACL, SXSW, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, Fiesta San Antonio, Formula 1 Austin, RodeoHouston)
- Experience launching or scaling an emerging beverage/CPG brand in a new market
Bonus Points (Either Level)
- Recent grad of a Texas university with active campus and community connections
- Comfort capturing on-brand photo/video content for social use
- Experience working with beverage distributors (e.g., DSD, beer/non-alc partners)
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) — a significant plus in Texas markets
