Job Overview

Oliver Wyman Health and Life Sciences (HLS) aims to ‘transform healthcare through the relentless pursuit of a better way.’ We comprise Health Services, Payers, Providers, Global Health Systems and Life Sciences. This specific role will focus on the life sciences segment.

The Life Sciences team works many of the world’s top pharmaceutical, biotechnology, diagnostics, and medical device companies on topic related to commercial strategy, pricing, and market access.

As a Research Analyst, you will focus on secondary research in the life sciences segment. You will have expert level research skills and the ability to quickly develop knowledge of multiple research tools to facilitate effective and creative research. Over time, you will develop increased industry specialization.

You will help consultants scope and develop their project’s research needs, conduct timely, accurate, creative, and cost-effective research for those focused needs, and deliver compelling summarized end products which will include some analyses. Many client engagements are heavily data driven which requires you to have high Microsoft Excel proficiency to analyze large data sets.

The development focus will be toward deep practice specialization, resource expertise, and continuous improvement in output synthesis and analysis. You will provide active training and mentoring opportunities to more junior research colleagues.

The role will also require you to provide ad hoc and programmatic analysis of key business drivers related to specific sectors in support of both client and business development. • This is a hybrid role that will require a presence in the office several days per week. There is no option to be fully remote.*

Key Responsibilities

• Help scope and develop project research needs, conduct timely, accurate and cost-effective research based on focused needs, and deliver compelling summarized end products which will include analyses
• Synthesize information and glean key concepts and trends from the information providing credible insights to produce client-ready deck/materials, to support proposal or project requirements
• Manage large data sets, conduct data analyses and build/validate models
• Take ownership and lead customized research products / services, including identifying opportunities for customized research products / services, sector/company fact packs, benchmarks, trend analysis or support for our published reports
• Contribute to developing the story line or taking on responsibility for a module of research
• Demonstrate strong collaboration skills, including coaching junior research colleagues and continually collaborating with global Knowledge Services team members by sharing ideas and experiences
• Create repositories of key data trends for re-use on subsequent projects
• Adhere to firm work standards and processes

Experience Required

• 3-5 years of prior experience as a life sciences researcher/analyst at a pharmaceutical, healthcare organization, healthcare research provider or management consultancy
• Knowledge of specific therapeutic areas (e.g., oncology) a plus
• Prior research experience at a management consultancy, healthcare organization, pharmaceutical or biotech firm is preferable
• Advanced Excel and PPT skills
• Familiarity with databases focused on life sciences such as EvaluatePharma, PharmaProjects, DRG’s Disease Landscape & Forecast, Cortellis Deals Intelligence, Trial Trove, Trial Timing or similar tools is critical. Experience with other research tools such as Capital IQ, Eikon or Bloomberg is a plus
• Strong technical aptitude and the ability to work with large data sets is important

The applicable base salary range for this role is $75,000 to $135,000.

The base pay offered will be determined on factors such as experience, skills, training, location, certifications, education, and any applicable minimum wage requirements. Decisions will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
