Architectural Associate I – Bureau of Architecture - SF Public Works (5265 TPV)

Under direction, as an Architectural Associate I, you will perform and be responsible for a variety of complex architectural duties in connection with the investigation of building sites, the preparation and coordination of preliminary and final working designs and drawings, and the preparation of related specifications for a variety of building renovations and construction maintenance and conversion projects.

You may be tasked with planning and assigning work to other architectural drafting personnel. In this role you will interact and coordinate design work with other Public Works design disciplines such as architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers and mechanical engineers.

During design work, you will support and produce plans and designs to present to City departments, residents, communities, agencies, commissions, and all stakeholders to achieve consensus before proceeding with construction documents.

Important and Essential Duties

As an Architectural Associate I, your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• You will supervise and participate in the preparation of preliminary plans and detailed drawings for a wide variety of complex construction, conversion, and repair projects.
• Developing finished designs of regular projects and portions of designs for highly complex projects.
• Analyzing and interpreting data, sketches, and designs providing technical assistance to architectural drafting personnel engaged in such work.
• You will prepare and review contract specifications for various projects.
• Coordinates design activities with those responsible for the structural, mechanical, and electrical design phases of such projects.
• Participate in meetings and discussions with representatives of City departments and outside organizations related to design specifications and functional use problems.
• Creating field observations of projects under construction to ensure compliance with contract documents; taking field measurements, documenting existing conditions, and incorporating data provided by other professionals, such as surveyors and geotechnical engineers.
• Develops, coordinates, and reviews quantity and cost estimates; checking construction submittals to determine if contract specifications are in compliance.
• You may be required to perform duties in connection with the architectural phases of interior design and construction management and, when appropriate, apply critical path method techniques.
• Assists in the development and advancement of junior team members.
