Safety Officer - Police - 5177

Under general direction, the Safety Officer develops, implements, maintains and improves effective Occupational Safety and Health Programs, with primary emphasis on reducing hazards and promoting/providing a safe environment.

The Safety Officer will be part of the SFPD Medical Liaison Unit which oversees the health of members including workers compensation, medical restrictions and medical claims validation, ADA, and Injury and Illness prevention programs. The Safety Officer essential duties include:

• Develops, implements, maintains and improves a variety of Occupational Safety and Health Programs, including Injury and Illness Prevention Programs;
• Monitors and ensures compliance with regulatory standards including Cal/OSHA standards and environmental regulations;
• Investigates or reviews investigation of health and safety related incidents to determine root causes and develop and implement recommendations for prevention;
• Develops and provides occupational safety and health training to SFPD members;
• Prepares reports and oversees health and safety records;
• Analyzes health and safety data to target injury prevention programs;
• Maintains current information in the field of occupational safety and stays informed on State, Federal and local legislation related to occupational safety;
• Develops, maintains, reviews, and revises occupational safety policies and procedures;
• Reviews safety data and other information to identify areas of risk and make recommendations for improvement;
• Conducts health and safety inspections to identify hazards and recommend controls;
• Coordinates ergonomic evaluations in office and other environments;
• Develops, maintains and implements Emergency Preparedness activities, including hazardous materials training and response;
• Develops and implements motor vehicle incident prevention programs;
• Provides technical advice on health and safety issues;
• Evaluates work operations and selects appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and other equipment; and
• The 5177 - Safety Officer performs related duties as required

Compensation

$134,186 – $175,396 (Annual)
