Position Summary

Under general direction, the 5207 Associate Engineer (Civil) in the Civil Section of the Engineering Management Bureau performs professional civil engineering work with a focus on hydraulics discipline following established engineering methods and procedures; including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis; water resources and water distribution system analysis, sewer and storm water drainage system design; storm water management and flood mapping support.

Under supervision, the Associate Engineer performs professional civil engineering work with a focus on hydraulics discipline following established engineering methods and procedures; including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis; water resources and water distribution system analysis, sewer and storm water drainage system design; storm water management and flood mapping support requiring civil, hydraulic/hydrology engineering skills and/or judgment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• The candidate will have proficiency in using numerical models such as Info
• Works ICM, EPA SWMM, PC SWMM, Info
• Water, Water
• GEMS, Synergi, EPANET or similar software.
• Knowledge of principles of hydrology, hydraulics, site drainage, grading are highly preferred.
• Experience or interest in using automation scripts including MATLAB, Python, Excel VBA is desired but not required.
• Experience in coordinating and collaborating with other agency staff including engineers, planners, management, operations, or field survey staff.
• The candidate will be responsible for preparing and delivering technical reports, presentations, cost estimates and schedules.
• The candidate will perform site visits in the field when necessary and perform other engineering duties as required.

The field work may include the followings: crawling, stooping, climbing ladders, and going into large diameter pipes and vaults (confined spaces).

The person will report to SFPUC main office building at 525 Golden Gate Avenue 11th Floor, San Francisco, CA and will need to travel locally within City limits on project basis or other remote areas on an assignment basis and overnight stays may be required.

Work Schedule

Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm.

Three days a week minimum at 525 Golden Gate Avenue and two days a week remote.
