Under close supervision Accounting Clerk Assistants perform a variety of difficult and responsible clerical accounting work; including assisting and receiving training in the review, preparation, processing, and maintenances of accounting records and reports, or payroll and timekeeping documents; may perform cashiering activities; and does related work.
Accounting Clerk Assistant is a transitional class between Accounting Clerk Trainee and Accounting Clerk. Accounting Clerk Assistants are hired in-lieu of Accounting Clerks, and serve a six-month probationary period intended to prepare them to assume more difficult duties, and to develop skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary for regular full-time employment with the City as Accounting Clerks.
Upon successful completion of probation, incumbents will be offered Charter Section 1014 transfers to Accounting Clerk. New appointees who do not successfully complete the probationary period will be terminated from the class.
The Accounting Clerk Assistant class will be utilized for the duration of the Bridge-to-Jobs Program solely as a vehicle to transition Bridge-to-Job participants to permanent full-time regular employment as Accounting Clerks.
The positions of Accounting Clerk Assistant in the Department of Animal Services, Building and Safety, Cannabis Regulation, Cultural Affairs, Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), Recreation and Parks, and Public Works - Bureau of Sanitation require a valid Class C California driver's license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) at the time of appointment.
Candidates will not be eligible for appointment to these positions if their DMV record within the last 36 months reflects three or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents, or a conviction of a major moving violation such as DUI.

The examination will be based entirely on a Program Performance Review. Candidates will be rated by one or more first and second-level supervisors who are familiar with their performance in the on-the-job training phase of the Bridge-to-Jobs Program.
In the Program Performance Review, the following competencies may be evaluated: Reading Comprehension; Mathematics; Judgment and Decision Making; Attention to Detail; Self-Management; Stress Tolerance; Interpersonal Skills; Job Knowledge, including knowledge of: fundamental accounting and bookkeeping concepts and practices; basic accounting documentation, including their purpose, contents, and the proper manner in which they should be completed; City accounting policies, procedures, and practices including those found in the Controller Manual, Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), and City Administrative Code; and other necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Factors such as the quality and quantity of work performed may also be considered.
