The Network Engineer provides operational support and stability of the Universitys voice, data, video, and/or wireless network services. Part of the team responsible for the configuration, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Universitys data network.
This includes local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), switches, routers, firewalls, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), and/or wireless and wired access layers.
Participates in a team responsible for optimal network performance in a 24/7 environment. Knowledge of Extreme Networks switch gear is a plus.
Project Coordination
Implementation
Team member or individual lead of a wide variety of project work aligned with the priorities of other ITS departments. Serve on teams responsible for a wide variety of ITS project work. Prepare project specification worksheets, drawings, spreadsheets, inventory requirements, and parts lists.
Monitoring
Troubleshooting
Provide operational support to troubleshoot and offer hands-on assistance with resolving issues in existing systems or services. Diagnose local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and wireless networks to ensure smooth and reliable operations. Serve as the first line of defense for network outages. A working knowledge of network protocols is desired.
Technical Documentation
Responsible for the creation and ongoing review of performance metrics.
