Interim Financial Controller

We are seeking a detail-oriented, mission-driven Financial Controller to step in immediately and oversee our day-to-day accounting operations, grant management, and financial compliance. Located in Dallas, TX, this role begins as a 2–5 month contract with the intent to convert to a permanent full-time position for the right candidate.

You will play a critical role in ensuring strong internal controls, accurate reporting, and fiscal integrity to support our community impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Accounting & Financial Operations: Oversee general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and monthly/annual close processes.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with leadership to build annual operating budgets, track budget-to-actual performance, and manage cash flow.
• Audit & Tax Compliance: Coordinate external financial audits and oversee tax preparations (including IRS Form 990 filing and local Texas regulatory compliance).
• Reporting & Strategy: Prepare accurate financial statements (Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Activities) and present key financial updates to leadership.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in nonprofit fund accounting.
• Technical Skills: Proficiency in GAAP for non-profits and hands-on experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Premier Nonprofit, Sage Intacct, or Financial Edge.
• Soft Skills: Ability to hit the ground running, strong analytical skills, clear communication, and a passion for community-driven work.
