Job Title: Senior SAP QM Consultant – Batch Management
Location: Atlanta, GA (Hybrid)
Experience: 15+ Years
Employment Type: Contract
About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced SAP QM Consultant with 15+ years of overall SAP experience and deep specialization in Batch Management to lead the design, configuration, and support of batch-managed material processes within SAP QM, integrated with SAP MM, PP, SD, and WM/EWM modules.
This is a senior-level, hands-on role requiring both deep technical expertise and the ability to advise stakeholders on best practices in regulated or process manufacturing environments (pharma, chemicals, food & beverage, etc.).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, configuration, and rollout of SAP Batch Management functionality, including batch level determination (client, plant, material level), batch number assignment, and batch classification.
- Architect and maintain Batch Master data strategy, including batch classification using characteristics and class types (023).
- Design and own batch-specific Quality Management processes: inspection lot creation, results recording, usage decisions, and stock posting linked to batch status.
- Define enterprise-level shelf-life management, expiration date control, and batch determination strategies (sort rules, batch search strategies - COB1/COB2).
- Configure and govern Batch Status Management (restricted/unrestricted stock) tied to QM inspection results and usage decisions.
- Own batch derivation, batch where-used (traceability), and batch genealogy design for production and process orders.
- Lead integration of batch management with MM (goods movements), PP/PP-PI (process orders), SD (batch determination in sales orders/deliveries), and WM/EWM.
- Drive Certificate of Analysis (CoA) generation and Certificate of Conformance processes tied to batch quality results.
- Serve as SME to cross-functional and business teams in defining batch classification characteristics, class hierarchies, and search strategies aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Lead audit readiness and regulatory compliance efforts (GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, ISO) related to batch traceability and quality records.
- Guide testing strategy — unit, integration, and UAT — for batch-related enhancements and configurations.
- Author functional specifications for custom developments (enhancements, user-exits, BAPIs) and guide ABAP teams through delivery.
- Provide escalation-level production support, root-cause analysis, and resolution for complex batch/QM issues.
- Mentor junior consultants and review their configuration and documentation.
- Lead process/design workshops with business stakeholders and present recommendations to leadership.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related field.
- 15+ years of overall SAP experience, with significant depth (8-10+ years) focused specifically on QM Batch Management, ideally across multiple full-cycle implementations.
- Expert-level knowledge of SAP QM master data: inspection plans, master inspection characteristics, catalogs, code groups, sampling procedures.
- Deep hands-on expertise in batch classification (CT04, CL02), batch search strategy configuration (COB1), and batch determination.
- Strong command of integration points between QM, MM, PP, SD, and WM/EWM related to batch handling.
- Proven experience with shelf-life expiration date (SLED) management and batch status control at scale.
- Experience with SAP S/4HANA batch management enhancements — e.g., simplified batch level, Fiori apps for batch management — including ECC to S/4HANA migration experience for batch-managed processes.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory/compliance frameworks (GMP, GxP, FDA 21 CFR Part 11).
- Demonstrated experience leading functional design and directing ABAP developers on custom batch/QM enhancements.
- Excellent leadership, client-facing communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- SAP QM/S4HANA certification preferred.
- Must be based in or willing to work hybrid out of Atlanta, GA.
Nice to Have
- Prior experience in a lead or architect role on at least one full-cycle S/4HANA implementation involving batch management.
- Experience with SAP EWM or WM batch handling.
- Exposure to Digital Manufacturing/MES integration with batch records.
- Experience in process manufacturing industries (Pharma, Chemicals, Food & Beverage, Life Sciences).
