The Opportunity

Tetra Tech has a position for a Civil/Water Resources Engineer in our Lakewood, CO or Colorado Springs, CO office. We are seeking an energetic individual interested in supporting a variety of challenging projects in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will work closely with Principal and Project Engineers, Scientists, and Project Managers on a variety of hydrology and hydraulic projects.

Essential Job Functions

• Water routing and management, grading plans, site plans, and other civil engineering designs.
• Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, stormwater conveyance and retention/detention design, stage-storage and water balance modeling, open channel flow, erosion, and sediment transport.
• Preparation of environmental compliance documents.
• Report and technical memorandum preparation.
• Development of engineering cost estimates.
• Development of bid specifications and contract documents.
• Construction oversight.
• Environmental data compilation, review, and evaluation, and site reconnaissance.
• Strong problem solving, time management, and written and verbal communication skills are required.

Required Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil Engineering / Environmental Engineering or a related field.
• 10+ years of engineering experience.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
• Education and work experience should be related to one or more of the following areas of civil/water resources engineering: civil design, stream and floodplain restoration, infrastructure design, storm water management, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, cost estimation, environmental regulations, remediation, water balance modelling, heavy earthwork construction, water quality.
• Experience should include the fundamentals of civil grading and drainage, hydrologic modeling, and hydraulic analysis.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is required with ability to quickly pick up proficiency in Civil 3D, HEC programs, and other standard programs.
• Ability to oversee and/or perform field data collection and construction management.
• Strong skills and proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft-based software, including MS Excel, for data analysis.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to summarize scientific data and model outputs in concise, readable language.
• A pre-employment drug screening in compliance with state regulations is required.
• Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. in Civil Engineering /Environmental Engineering or related field preferred.
• Experience or familiarity with other software such as ArcGIS and GOLDSIM is highly desirable.
• MSHA and/or OSHA HAZWOPER certification preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to walk across variable terrain, including uneven ground, in all weather conditions (i.e. rain, snow, sun, cold weather, and hot weather).
• Ability to work at a high altitude and within proximity to various field environments that can contain insects, arachnids, reptiles, mammals, plants, etc. Ability to travel and perform field work/oversight (approx. < 25% of travel required).

Work Environment / Environmental Factors

• This position will require the candidate to work in the office regularly with our team for the first 6 months to receive one-on-one training from other staff, form relationships with fellow employees with a range of backgrounds, and more fully and quickly intergrade into our team. After the first 6 months, this position may allow a flexible hybrid work setting and schedule to be worked out with your supervisor. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company’s discretion.
• Based out of either our Lakewood, CO or Colorado Springs, CO office with the potential of a hybrid work arrangement, but the candidate must reside within 25 miles of a local office. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company’s discretion.
• Occasional field work will include work to be performed outside, as a result may include occasional work in various environmental factors (weather, altitude, terrain, etc.). This can include remaining stationary for long periods of time, walking, lifting, bending, and sitting.
• Office work will include prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer.

Additional Information

• Full-time, Monday through Friday work schedule (40 hours). Occasionally extended hours may be required based on project and/or client needs.
• Work will be performed in an office and field setting.

Target salary range: $110,000 to $130,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
