PLC/SCADA Automation Engineer – Water Treatment & Injection Package SystemsJob Summary
We are seeking an experienced PLC/SCADA Automation Engineer with strong expertise in developing PLC logic, HMI/SCADA applications, and commissioning automation systems for water treatment plants and chemical/water injection package systems.
The successful candidate will be responsible for writing, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning PLC software for packaged process plants while ensuring reliable and efficient plant operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop PLC software and control logic using Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram (FBD), Structured Text (ST), and Sequential Function Charts (SFC) in accordance with IEC 61131-3 standards.
- Design, develop, and maintain HMI and SCADA applications with process graphics, alarms, trends, event logs, reports, and user management.
- Prepare functional design specifications (FDS), software design specifications (SDS), I/O lists, control narratives, cause-and-effect matrices, alarm lists, and software documentation.

- Water Treatment Plants (WTP)
- Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plants
- Ultrafiltration (UF) Systems
- Demineralized (DM) Water Plants
- Chemical Dosing and Injection Packages
- Water Injection Skids
- Pumping Stations
- CIP Systems
- Containerized and Skid-Mounted Water Treatment Systems
- Develop PLC sequencing for automatic plant start-up, shutdown, flushing, backwashing, chemical dosing, tank level management, pump duty/standby changeover, and plant protection interlocks.
- Configure and troubleshoot communication with PLCs, remote I/O, variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor control centres (MCCs), analyzers, and field instrumentation.
- Integrate field devices including flow, pressure, level, temperature, pH, ORP, conductivity, turbidity, chlorine analyzers, dosing pumps, control valves, actuators, and package equipment.
- Configure industrial communication protocols such as Modbus RTU/TCP, Profinet, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, and OPC UA.
- Perform software simulation, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), loop checking, commissioning, and plant start-up.
- Troubleshoot PLC programs, SCADA systems, HMI applications, communication networks, and field instrumentation during commissioning and operation.
- Optimize control logic to improve plant performance, reliability, chemical consumption, and energy efficiency.
- Prepare software backups, as-built documentation, and operating manuals.
- Provide technical support, operator training, and after-sales troubleshooting.
- Coordinate with process, electrical, instrumentation, mechanical, and commissioning engineers throughout project execution.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, Automation, or Mechatronics Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in PLC/SCADA programming for water treatment plants, RO systems, or chemical/water injection package systems.
- Proven experience in writing PLC logic from scratch for packaged process plants.
Technical Skills
- Strong PLC programming skills using Ladder Logic, FBD, Structured Text, and Sequential Function Charts.
- HMI and SCADA development experience.
- Strong understanding of process control, instrumentation, interlocks, alarms, and sequencing.
- Experience in industrial networking and communication protocols.
- Ability to read P&IDs, electrical drawings, loop diagrams, and control philosophies.
- Experience with VFDs, MCCs, soft starters, analyzers, and intelligent field devices.
