Job Title -Petroleum Engineer
Summary
Design, develop, and optimize methods for extracting oil and gas from underground reservoirs safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively. Collaborate with geoscientists, drilling and production teams, and operations to plan wells, evaluate reservoir performance, and implement production enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and evaluate drilling and well-completion programs (vertical, deviated, horizontal) to meet production and safety targets.
- Perform reservoir engineering: estimate reserves, build and run reservoir simulation models, forecast production, and recommend recovery strategies (primary, secondary, enhanced oil recovery).
- Analyze well performance and production data; diagnose issues (water/gas breakthrough, scaling, sand production) and recommend remediation.
- Calculate well economics, perform production optimization (artificial lift, choke management), and advise on field development plans.
- Design and specify well completions, stimulation (hydraulic fracturing, acidizing), and sand-control measures.
- Collaborate on drilling operations: mud programs, casing and cement design, directional drilling plans, and well-control procedures.
- Oversee surface facility requirements for separation, gas handling, and produced water treatment related to well design.
- Conduct material and equipment selection; evaluate vendor proposals and ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Perform risk assessments, HAZOP reviews, and ensure operations comply with safety and environmental regulations.
- Prepare technical reports, well proposals, cost estimates, and present findings to stakeholders.
- Support permitting, liaise with regulatory agencies, and ensure environmental mitigation measures are applied.
Required Qualifications
- BS in Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
- 2+ years industry experience (varies by level) in upstream oil & gas operations, reservoir engineering, or drilling/completions.
- Proficiency with reservoir and production engineering tools (e.g., Eclipse, CMG, OFM, Prosper, MBAL, PIPESIM).
- Strong understanding of reservoir fundamentals, wellbore hydraulics, production systems, and drilling/completion practices.
- Competence with data analysis and programming (Excel, VBA, Python, MATLAB).
- Familiarity with petroleum geology concepts and well log interpretation.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and industry standards (API, ISO).
- Effective communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
Preferred Qualifications
- MS in Petroleum Engineering or related advanced degree.
- Experience with unconventional reservoirs, hydraulic fracturing design, or enhanced oil recovery techniques.
- Field experience in rig operations, well testing, or production surveillance.
- Familiarity with reservoir surveillance technologies (PLT, MDT), data analytics, and machine learning applications in reservoir engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certifications.
Skills & Tools
- Reservoir simulators: Eclipse, CMG
- Production/well modeling: PIPESIM, Prosper, OFM
- Data analysis: Python, MATLAB, Excel/VBA, SQL
