Senior Static & Piping Engineer - Client Secondment Role

Role Overview

Wood is seeking a highly experienced Senior Static & Piping Engineer for a client secondment position in Muscat, Oman. This role involves leading static equipment and piping engineering deliverables for major capital projects, ensuring compliance with international codes, client specifications, and project schedules.

The successful candidate will provide technical authority, mentorship, and interface management across multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, analysis, and specification of static equipment (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, reactors) and piping systems for onshore/offshore facilities.
• Perform and review stress analysis using Caesar II, AutoPIPE, or equivalent; conduct finite element analysis (FEA) for critical components.
• Ensure compliance with ASME VIII Div. 1/2, ASME B31.3, API 650, API 620, API 560, TEMA, and relevant international standards.
• Develop and review engineering deliverables: datasheets, specifications, material requisitions, vendor drawing reviews, and technical bid evaluations.
• Provide technical support during procurement, fabrication, inspection, testing, and commissioning phases.
• Interface with process, mechanical, civil/structural, instrumentation, and project management teams to resolve design conflicts and optimize layouts.
• Conduct HAZOP, SIL, and design review participation; implement recommendations.
• Mentor junior engineers; perform quality checks on engineering outputs; ensure adherence to project quality management systems.
• Prepare technical reports, calculation packages, and progress reports for client and project leadership.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum 12+ years of relevant experience in static equipment and piping engineering within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or refining sectors.
• Proven track record on large-scale EPC projects (greenfield/brownfield) and/or FEED studies.
• Extensive hands-on experience with PV Elite, Compress, Caesar II, AutoPIPE, ANSYS/ABAQUS for FEA.
• Deep knowledge of material selection, corrosion allowances, welding procedures (ASME IX), NDE requirements, and fitness-for-service assessments (API 579/ASME FFS-1).
• Familiarity with international project execution procedures, document control systems (e.g., Aconex, SharePoint), and 3D modeling tools (PDMS, SP3D, SmartPlant 3D).
• Strong communication skills; ability to work in multicultural environments and manage client relationships directly.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration is a significant advantage.

Assignment Details

This is a 12-month secondment to a major client in Muscat, Oman. The role requires full-time presence at the client's office or project site. The engineer will act as the client's technical focal point for static and piping engineering matters, ensuring alignment with project objectives, schedule, and quality expectations.
