About CyberXCenter

CyberXCenter's mission is to build national cybersecurity capabilities for Operational Technology (OT). Their goal is to safeguard national infrastructure by investing in strategic platforms through their Cyber Excellence Center, leveraging world-class technology to develop top-tier capabilities. CyberXCenter collaborates with the government and unite like-minded industry experts to do so.

Their setup allows companies to conduct cyber exercises and Red Team/Blue Team exercises internally. Red Teams consist of offensive security professionals who specialize in attacking systems and penetrating defenses, often working in conjunction with their training to teach users how to identify and exploit vulnerabilities in OT systems.

Blue Teams are defensive security professionals tasked with maintaining internal network defenses against all cyber threats. Their training helps Blue Teams refine their methodologies for defending OT systems effectively.

Project Description

The Objective of this project is to be part of the team to understand the attack vector of 5G, and to maintain the testbed invested by MINDEF.

The Junior Cyber Security Researcher is responsible for conducting research and development in the field of cybersecurity, focusing on identifying, analyzing, and mitigating cyber threats.

The environment will be an invested testbed by DIS (Digital and Intelligence Service) which is the fourth service of MINDEF. The role involves working in a university environment to test and enhance security protocols, technologies, and systems.

RESEARCHER DUTIES

Research and Analysis

• Conduct thorough research on emerging cyber threats, attack vectors, and vulnerabilities.
• Analyze malware, exploits, and other malicious activities to understand their behavior and impact.
• Stay updated with the latest cybersecurity trends, tools, and techniques.

Security Testing and Evaluation

• Perform penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security audits on systems, networks, and applications.
• Develop and implement test plans, methodologies, and tools to evaluate the effectiveness of security measures.
• Collaborate with IT and development teams to address identified vulnerabilities.

Maintenance of TestBed

• Maintenance of the testbed including the design of the interconnectivity of the lab
• Managing the backup and restoration process
• Testing of the health status of the equipment

Development of Security Solutions

• Design and develop innovative security solutions and technologies to protect against cyber threats.
• Create proof-of-concept models and prototypes to demonstrate the feasibility of new security approaches.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of security policies, standards, and best practices.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities for improving the cybersecurity lab's processes, tools, and capabilities.
• Participate in professional development activities, such as conferences, workshops, and certifications, to enhance expertise.
• Contribute to the organization's knowledge base by documenting research findings, methodologies, and best practices.

POTENTIAL TRAINING DUTIES

• Conduct training for technical staff, management and end-users and share real – world scenarios and simulations to enhance practical understanding and application of cybersecurity concepts

Project scope shall not be limited to the above. It may encompass other related tasks needed for the project/role assigned by the partner company.
