Dalton School Hong Kong is seeking a dedicated and experienced English Teacher (EAL Focus) and a Primary English Teacher to join our team. This role focuses on supporting emergent English language learners through high-quality, targeted English instruction and coordinated EAL support.

The ideal candidate will be a skilled English teacher with deep expertise in EAL pedagogy and a passion for helping non-native English speakers thrive academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities

English Language Instruction : Deliver engaging and effective EAL lessons using evidence-based pedagogical strategies to support language acquisition and academic success.

Assessment & Progress Monitoring : Lead EAL assessments (including WIDA) to evaluate student progress, identify needs, and inform teaching and learning.

EAL Programme Coordination : Plan and coordinate push-in, pull-out, and after-school EAL support services, ensuring alignment with academic standards, inquiry themes, and individual student needs.

Collaboration : Partner closely with classroom teachers, the Head of English, and other faculty to create an inclusive learning environment for EAL students.

Professional Development : Provide training, resources, and guidance to staff on best practices for supporting English language learners.

Curriculum Development : Adapt and develop English language materials and resources to meet the specific needs of EAL students.

Social-Emotional Support : Foster students’ social-emotional well-being and positive behaviour in line with the school’s values.

Parent Communication : Maintain proactive and culturally sensitive communication with parents (particularly Mandarin-speaking families) regarding student progress and support strategies.

Admissions Support : Collaborate with the Director of Admissions to assess prospective EAL students, develop appropriate language placement tools, and promote the school’s EAL programme to families.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).

Recognised qualification in EAL/TESOL/TEFL.

Proven experience teaching English to EAL learners, ideally in an international school setting.

Strong familiarity with WIDA or similar EAL assessment frameworks.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

Passion for supporting emergent language learners and a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
