General Manager/Personal Training Director

Role Description This is a full-time, on-site General Manager/Personal Training Director role based in Baldwin Place, NY. The individual in this position oversees day-to-day club operations, including staffing, scheduling, member services, and facility standards to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.

The role leads and develops the personal training team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance management, and ongoing education to maintain high-quality training services.

Daily responsibilities include driving membership and personal training sales, managing budgets and key performance metrics, coordinating group fitness and training programs, and collaborating with marketing to support club promotions and member engagement.

The General Manager/Personal Training Director also handles member feedback, resolves operational issues promptly, and fosters a culture of accountability, professionalism, and results.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in fitness club management, personal training leadership, or similar operational roles, preferably in a multi-service fitness environment.
• Strong people leadership skills, including team coaching, performance management, and the ability to build a positive, inclusive, and results-driven culture.
• Sales and business development capabilities, with experience in membership sales, personal training package sales, revenue growth, and budget management.
• Operational excellence skills, including scheduling, facility oversight, compliance with safety standards, and consistent delivery of high-quality member experiences.
• Program and service development skills, such as designing or optimizing personal training offerings, small group training, and member retention initiatives.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and maintain professional relationships with members and team members.
• Certification from a recognized personal training organization (e.g., NASM, ACSM, ACE, ISSA) and knowledge of current fitness, coaching, and recovery methodologies.
• Comfort with using club management software and basic office tools to track performance metrics, member information, schedules, and operational reports.
• Ability to work on-site with a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, to support peak club hours and special events.
• Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Business, or a related field is beneficial but not required; equivalent experience is considered.
