About the Role

We are seeking a hands-on GCP Data Architect to design, build, and optimize scalable, cloud-native data solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role is ideal for a technical leader who enjoys both architecture and implementation, with deep expertise in BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and Python.

As a GCP Data Architect, you will drive the design and delivery of modern data platforms that support enterprise-scale analytics, real-time processing, and data-driven decision-making. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to build secure, high-performing, and cost-effective data ecosystems while helping shape the organization's overall data strategy.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and architect scalable, secure, and cost-efficient data platforms on Google Cloud Platform.
• Lead the development of batch and real-time data ingestion, transformation, and processing solutions.
• Build modern data architectures leveraging BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, and other GCP services.
• Evaluate and implement distributed processing and data movement patterns based on business requirements.
• Design, develop, and optimize enterprise-scale ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance for data modeling, storage, governance, performance, and scalability.
• Collaborate with data engineers, application developers, platform teams, and business stakeholders to deliver data solutions.
• Support cloud-native deployment patterns using Cloud Run, Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), and related technologies.
• Contribute to infrastructure automation, DevOps processes, and CI/CD best practices.
• Participate in architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and code reviews.
• Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance data processing workloads and platform performance.
• Stay current on emerging GCP technologies and recommend best practices for cloud data architecture.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Data Architecture, or Cloud Data Platform development.
• Strong hands-on expertise with:
• Google BigQuery
• Google Cloud Dataflow
• Google Cloud Pub/Sub
• Python
• Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise data solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Strong understanding of:
• Distributed systems
• Data pipeline architecture
• Batch and streaming data processing
• Large-scale data processing and analytics
• Experience developing, deploying, and supporting production-grade data pipelines.
• Ability to balance strategic architecture responsibilities with hands-on development.
• Experience with cloud-native application deployment patterns, including Cloud Run and/or GKE.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage technical and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or similar tools).
• Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance best practices.
• Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines for cloud-based data platforms.
• GCP certifications such as:
• Professional Data Engineer
• Professional Cloud Architect
• Experience working in Agile development environments.

Work Model

This is a hybrid position based in Chicago, IL. Candidates should be able to work onsite as required while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
