Senior Art Handler & Logistics Coordinator

An established fine art gallery is seeking an experienced Senior Art Handler & Logistics Coordinator for a unique opportunity to help build a new art storage and logistics operation from the ground up. This 90-day position will play a key role in the build-out and organization of a new warehouse facility, including artwork storage, inventory organization, shop setup, logistics coordination, and a wide range of hands-on operational projects.

We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable handling artwork, building storage systems, organizing inventory, managing logistics, and creating an efficient, well-functioning workspace.

Responsibilities

• Pack, crate, receive, transport, install, and deinstall fine artwork using museum-standard handling techniques.
• Build and install artwork storage racks, shelving, and other warehouse infrastructure.
• Organize and relocate gallery inventory within a new warehouse facility.
• Establish organized storage areas for artwork, books, crates, packing materials, tools, and shop equipment.
• Maintain accurate inventory records, artwork locations, shipment documentation, and condition reports.
• Coordinate logistics for artwork shipments, installations, transportation, and storage.
• Schedule and oversee incoming and outgoing shipments, working closely with fine art shippers, outside art handling companies, and installation crews to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
• Prepare artwork for exhibitions, art fairs, private installations, and shipment.
• Safely load, secure, transport, and unload artwork and gallery property.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Collaborate with gallery staff on a variety of installation and operational projects as the warehouse is developed.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of professional art handling experience with a gallery, museum, auction house, or fine art logistics company.
• Extensive experience handling paintings, sculpture, works on paper, and other valuable objects.
• Strong packing, crating, installation, and transportation skills.
• Experience installing artwork in galleries, museums, private residences, and art fairs.
• Experience working with important private collections and works of art.
• Experience coordinating logistics for artwork shipments, installations, and transportation.
• Ability to work effectively with fine art shippers, outside art handling companies, and other vendors.
• Comfortable using hand and power tools and able to build artwork storage racks, shelving, and other warehouse fixtures.
• Experience setting up, organizing, or relocating art storage facilities or warehouse spaces is highly desirable.
• Prior gallery experience is strongly preferred.
• Clean driving record and experience driving cargo vans and box trucks.
• Strong organizational and computer skills, including inventory management, artwork tracking, shipping documentation, and condition reporting.
• Ability to lift and move artwork and crates safely and work from ladders when required.
