Revby is seeking a Small Business Consultant to join our Boston-based team. We are looking for a curious, resourceful professional who brings strong analytical, business, and problem-solving skills; understands the realities of running a small business; and wants to apply that experience across a wide range of industries and challenges to help clients achieve measurable results.

We partner with government agencies, economic development organizations (EDO), and entrepreneurial support organizations (ESO) to design and deliver programs that help small businesses stabilize, grow, access capital, and achieve measurable outcomes.

Our work directly supports local economies by helping public funds translate into real impact for entrepreneurs, communities, and economic development partners. We specialize in supporting community-based small businesses, including those led by minority-, women-, immigrant-, LGBTQ-owned, and historically underserved entrepreneurs.

Revby works with clients across the U.S., including the City of Boston’s Office of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, City of Tacoma Office of Community and Economic Development, Arlington Economic Development, Invest Atlanta, the State of New Mexico, and other public-sector and ecosystem partners.

We are entering an important stage of growth. Our 3-year strategy is focused on growing our EDO/ESO business and building the foundation needed to scale in a disciplined, sustainable, and mission-aligned way.

Our projects span business planning and strategy, financial analysis, sales and marketing planning, branding, operations, bookkeeping, hiring and people management, technology and software implementation, website development, and e-commerce.

About the Role

Revby has an opening for a Consultant I - Small Business Consultant to join our growing team of full-time employee small business consultants. This is a client-facing role for someone who are motivated to help diverse small business owners move from broad or unclear needs toward practical decisions, useful deliverables, and achievable next steps.

The Consultant will contribute across several areas of small business support rather than being limited to one service line.

Relevant strengths may include business planning, financial analysis, operations, marketing and digital work, market research, access to capital, writing, data analysis. Digital marketing experience would be valuable, but it is one useful skill set among several rather than the defining requirement.

We are intentionally keeping the role open to candidates with different combinations of subject matter expertise, consulting experience, and emerging specialties.

After onboarding, this person is expected to facilitate routine client meetings, own defined workstreams, and lead or co-lead smaller engagements with guidance and quality review from a manager or more senior consultant. As Revby is also a small business, every employee is expected to contribute to service improvement, internal operations, and company growth.

Primary Responsibilities Include

• Provide business coaching and consulting to small business owners, helping clients clarify goals, diagnose challenges, set priorities, and translate broad needs into practical project plans and deliverables.
• Lead or co-lead discovery meetings, assessments, work planning, routine client meetings, and follow-up communications for assigned engagements.
• Develop client-ready deliverables across areas such as business plans, strategic plans, financial analyses and projections, operating procedures, marketing plans, market research, capital-readiness materials, and implementation roadmaps.
• Contribute to financial work, including review of financial statements, budgeting, cash flow analysis, pricing and break-even analysis, sales projections, scenario modeling, and preparation for financing conversations.
• Support marketing and digital projects through research, planning, content development, digital presence assessment, website or eCommerce recommendations, campaign planning, and performance analysis when aligned with the candidate's skills.
• Help clients strengthen day-to-day operations through workflow design, staffing and role clarification, inventory or purchasing practices, vendor coordination, customer experience, technology adoption, and implementation planning.
• Conduct market, customer, competitor, and industry research; synthesize quantitative and qualitative information into clear findings, recommendations, and decision tools.
• Coordinate with Revby specialists and external partners, recognize when deeper expertise is needed, and integrate specialist input into a coherent client plan.
• Manage multiple concurrent projects and workstreams with attention to scope, schedules, task completion, client follow-up, documentation, deliverable quality, and accurate time tracking.
• Maintain accurate records in CRM and project management systems and contribute to program reporting, service templates, proposals, business development, and internal process improvement.

Desired Experience

A strong, qualified candidate will have most or all of the following:

• At least two years of relevant professional experience, not including years while enrolled in a degree program. A bachelor’s degree is desired but not required for this role. Entrepreneurial experience as a founder also a plus.
• Meaningful experience working directly in, advising, or supporting small or locally owned businesses, community-facing organizations, entrepreneurship programs, professional services, or economic development initiatives.
• Experience with restaurants, food and beverage services, retail, personal services, hospitality, professional services, or other locally rooted and community-facing industries is especially relevant.
• Demonstrated ability either to produce strong client-ready deliverables through analysis, writing, research, financial modeling, and presentation development, or to bring substantial practical knowledge of small business operations and implementation. Candidates who combine both are particularly attractive, but deep strength in one can be sufficient.
• Working knowledge in at least two of the following: business planning and strategy; financial analysis and access to capital; marketing, sales, and digital presence; operations and process improvement; market research and data analysis; technology implementation; hiring and people management.
• Client-facing experience gathering requirements, facilitating conversations, explaining recommendations, responding constructively to feedback, and helping business owners make practical decisions.
• Strong professional writing, presentation, spreadsheet, customer service, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with people who have different levels of business and technology experience.
• Ability to manage a defined project or workstream with attention to scope, schedule, quality, client communication, time utilization, and use of cloud-based business tools.
• A curious, adaptable, entrepreneurial, and collaborative approach, with a genuine interest in working with micro-enterprises and diverse business owners.

Education and Experience

• A bachelor’s degree is not a hard requirement for this role. However, a higher education certificate or degree in business, economics, finance, statistics or data science, marketing, hospitality, restaurant management, public policy, community or economic development, or a related field will be considered favorably.
• Graduate coursework or relevant finance, project management, data, marketing, or business certifications are a plus.

Language Requirement

• Fluency in spoken English required; strong English professional writing skills required
• Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, or another language commonly spoken in a US metro area a plus but not required.
