Senior Estimator (Education)

Your new company

This Washington, DC–based general contractor has been operating for nearly two decades and has grown from a specialty subcontractor into a prime GC delivering multi‑million‑dollar projects across the district. Their portfolio includes a wide range of public-sector work, particularly for city agencies.

They regularly deliver education facilities, recreation centers, community buildings, health and wellness centers, and emergency support facilities. Project values typically range from $500K to $20M, with larger joint‑venture work extending into the $50M+ range.

Your new role

• Lead the full estimating process for GMP and public‑sector projects from early budgeting through final submission.
• Develop detailed quantity takeoffs, scope breakdowns, and cost analyses across all divisions.
• Coordinate subcontractor outreach, manage bid leveling, and ensure complete trade coverage.
• Prepare and review RFI documentation, clarifications, and scope narratives.
• Work closely with operations and preconstruction teams to validate constructability, phasing, and schedule impacts.
• Evaluate drawings, specifications, addenda, and procurement requirements for DC‑based agencies.
• Support development of bid strategies, value engineering options, and risk assessments.

What you'll need to succeed

• At least 6+ years estimating experience working for a GC.
• Strong background in bidding government, municipal, or public‑sector construction — education, recreation, community, or public health facilities.
• Ability to manage the full estimating life cycle from conceptual budgeting through final pricing.
• Proven experience estimating GMP projects is a plus.
• Familiarity with self‑performing trades (drywall, framing, concrete, masonry) is a plus.
• Strong relationships with local subcontractor markets and knowledge of DC procurement.
• Proficiency with estimating platforms such as Bluebeam, BuildingConnected, Procore, or similar tools.
