Senior IP/MPLS Network Engineer- Dallas, TX or Houston, TX

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced IP Engineer III to join our Engineering team. This role is responsible for design, implementation, optimization, and support of large-scale carrier-grade IP/MPLS networks. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in service provider or telecommunications environments and possess deep expertise in routing, switching, MPLS technologies, and multi-vendor network platforms.

This position offers the opportunity to lead complex network initiatives, drive architecture improvements, support operational excellence, and serve as a technical leader for critical network infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deploy, maintain, and troubleshoot carrier-grade IP/MPLS networks across core, edge, aggregation, and transport environments.
• Engineer resilient network architecture utilizing BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, Layer 2/Layer 3 VPNs, traffic engineering, and high-availability design principles.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for routing, convergence, latency, packet loss, and service-impacting network events.
• Configure, validate, and support multi-vendor platforms including Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, and Ciena equipment.
• Lead network upgrades, migrations, expansions, and optimization projects while minimizing operational and customer impact.
• Perform capacity planning, performance analysis, and proactive network health reviews.
• Develop and maintain engineering standards, implementation plans, operational procedures, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, field teams, vendors, and customers to resolve complex technical issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership during escalations and maintenance activities.
• Participate in change management, maintenance windows, and on-call support as needed.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in carrier networking, service provider networking, or large-scale telecommunications environments.
• Expert knowledge of MPLS technologies including LDP, RSVP-TE, Segment Routing, Layer 2/Layer 3 VPNs, Traffic Engineering, and Carrier Ethernet services.
• Extensive hands-on experience with BGP, including route policies, route reflectors, peering, transit, communities, and troubleshooting.
• Strong operational and design experience with IS-IS and OSPF in large-scale routed networks.
• Experience supporting and troubleshooting Juniper, Cisco, Nokia, and Ciena platforms.
• Strong understanding of carrier network design principles including resiliency, redundancy, scalability, QoS, and convergence.
• Experience analyzing packet captures, routing tables, telemetry, logs, and performance data to troubleshoot complex network issues.
• Proven ability to create detailed engineering documentation, MOPs, implementation plans, and test procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, IT, Telecommunications, or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with optical transport technologies including DWDM, ROADM, coherent optics, wavelength services, and optical-layer troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of network automation and telemetry tools such as Python, Ansible, NETCONF, YANG, gNMI, or vendor APIs.
• Experience supporting Segment Routing, EVPN, DCI, IP/Optical Convergence, or backbone modernization initiatives.
• Industry certifications such as JNCIP/JNCIE, CCNP/CCIE Service Provider, Nokia NRS, or Ciena certifications.
