Compliance Officer

To support our mission, we are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Certified Privacy and Compliance Officer to lead our compliance and privacy initiatives.

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced compliance professional to oversee, develop, and implement our organization's compliance and privacy program.

This role is critical in ensuring our clinical, admissions, and billing teams operate in full compliance with all federal and state regulations, including HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and other behavioral health-specific requirements . The ideal candidate will leverage their certification to build a culture of accountability and ensure our organization remains audit-ready across all operations.

We are looking for a strategic leader who can move our compliance program from a reactive function to a proactive, continuous monitoring operation . As we increasingly adopt Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) technologies, this role will be key to operationalizing our compliance knowledge.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership: Lead, develop, and implement a comprehensive corporate compliance and privacy program that promotes ethical conduct and regulatory adherence across all departments, including clinical, admissions, and billing .

Privacy Oversight: Serve as the organization's primary privacy officer, ensuring compliance with HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules, 42 CFR Part 2, and other state-specific privacy laws regarding protected health information (PHI). Oversee breach response, incident investigations, and patient rights .

Auditing & Monitoring: Conduct internal audits, compliance testing, and risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities in documentation, billing, and operational processes. Develop and implement corrective action plans to address any deficiencies .

Policy Management: Develop, review, and update company policies and procedures to reflect current laws and regulations. Ensure effective communication and training of all staff on compliance requirements .

Regulatory Education: Educate and train employees on the latest compliance regulations, including fraud and abuse laws (False Claims Act, Anti-Kickback Statute, Stark Law), OIG guidance, and documentation standards .

Accreditation & Payer Support: Support the organization's accreditation readiness with bodies like CARF or The Joint Commission and manage payer contract requirements and audits .

Reporting: Provide regular reports on compliance program activities, investigations, and risk assessments to executive leadership and the Board of Directors .

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Health Information Management, Law, or a related field required. A Master's degree or Juris Doctor is a plus .

Experience

3-5 years of progressive experience in a healthcare compliance role is required. Direct experience in a hospital, health system, or behavioral health setting is highly preferred .

Proven experience with compliance operations, policy implementation, auditing, monitoring, and investigations .

Experience with HIPAA, healthcare compliance regulations, and privacy laws is essential .

Certification (Required)

One of the following recognized healthcare compliance certifications is required upon hire or within 12 months of employment .

Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC): The most widely recognized general compliance credential, issued by the Compliance Certification Board (CCB) .

Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC): An ideal credential for roles centered on privacy, HIPAA, and PHI handling, also issued by the CCB .

Certified Professional Compliance Officer (CPCO): Particularly relevant for roles overseeing billing compliance, coding integrity, and revenue cycle oversight .

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)

Master’s degree in a related field .

Experience in primary care .

Experience with GRC platforms or continuous monitoring workflows.

Active Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP) certification.

Familiarity with eCW EMR.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
