Enterprise Application Architect

We are seeking an experienced Application Architect to lead the assessment, modernization, and cloud migration of a custom homegrown enterprise application environment. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in application architecture, cloud transformation, AWS technologies, Java-based applications, Oracle databases, and modernization strategies.

This role will evaluate existing legacy and custom-built applications, develop a comprehensive modernization roadmap, and architect scalable cloud solutions that support business objectives while minimizing operational risk.

The successful candidate will collaborate with business stakeholders, development teams, infrastructure teams, and executive leadership to deliver strategic technology recommendations and implementation plans.

This is a hybrid position requiring one day per week onsite in Atlanta, Georgia, with periodic travel to other locations throughout Georgia, including DeKalb County and Forsyth County. This is a one-year contract with the option to renew

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and analyze existing custom-developed and legacy applications to determine cloud migration and modernization readiness
• Conduct application portfolio assessments, dependency analysis, and architecture reviews
• Develop application modernization strategies, migration roadmaps, and target-state architectures
• Create enterprise data strategies supporting cloud transformation initiatives
• Design and implement cloud-native and hybrid-cloud architectures using AWS services and best practices
• Recommend modernization approaches, including rehosting, replatforming, refactoring, and rearchitecting applications
• Define architecture standards, governance models, and technical guidelines for cloud adoption
• Design integration solutions between on-premises and cloud-based systems
• Collaborate with development teams to modernize Java-based applications and services
• Architect solutions involving Oracle databases, data migration, and data modernization initiatives
• Evaluate security, scalability, performance, resiliency, and disaster recovery requirements
• Develop technical documentation, architecture diagrams, migration plans, and executive presentations
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to development and engineering teams
• Support cloud migration execution and oversee architecture compliance throughout implementations

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
• 10+ years of experience in enterprise application architecture and solution design
• 5+ years of experience leading cloud migration and modernization initiatives
• Strong experience assessing and modernizing custom/homegrown applications
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)
• Strong expertise in Java application architecture and development framework
• Experience designing and supporting Oracle database solutions
• Demonstrated experience creating enterprise data strategies and data architecture roadmaps
• Experience with hybrid cloud environments and cloud transformation programs
• Knowledge of microservices architecture, APIs, containerization, and cloud-native development
• Strong understanding of enterprise integration patterns and application lifecycle management
• Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or Associate
• Experience with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• Experience with application modernization frameworks and cloud migration tools
• Experience working within government, public sector, or large enterprise environment
• Knowledge of data governance, master data management, and enterprise data architecture
