Entry Level Mechanical Field Technician (HVAC Testing & Commissioning)

National TAB Intelligence (NTi) is seeking a motivated candidate to join our team. The ideal candidate is dependable, has a strong work ethic, possesses strong mechanical aptitude and enjoys working with tools, equipment, and mechanical systems to join our team and support our field engineers in the testing and evaluation of HVAC systems.

This position is based primarily in the Raleigh, NC area and offers a consistent schedule with daytime working hours only—no nights, weekends, or on-call work.

As the assistant to the field engineer, you will work alongside experienced professionals performing Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) and commissioning services on commercial mechanical systems. Your responsibilities will include assisting with system adjustments, collecting field data, and supporting project execution to ensure HVAC systems operate as designed.

No prior TAB experience is required. We provide comprehensive training and a clear path for professional development. The ideal candidate is dependable, possesses a strong work ethic, and enjoys hands-on mechanical work.

Individuals with experience in automotive repair, farming, construction, maintenance, manufacturing, or other mechanically focused trades are often well-suited for this role and transition successfully into the industry.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site inspections and document HVAC equipment, system configurations, and field conditions.
• Perform field surveys and quality control assessments of ventilation and mechanical systems.
• Assist with the installation and verification of Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) technologies and monitoring equipment.
• Support Field Engineers with Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) activities on commercial HVAC systems.
• Perform basic airflow measurements and balancing of constant-volume systems under the guidance of senior technicians. Training will be provided.
• Make mechanical adjustments to HVAC equipment, including blower drives, dampers, actuators, and related system components.
• Collect, organize, and report field data using company-provided digital platforms and software.
• Assist in troubleshooting HVAC performance issues and identifying operational deficiencies.
• Maintain testing instruments, tools, and equipment in proper working condition.
• Communicate professionally with clients, contractors, and project team members while on job sites.
• Follow all company safety policies and maintain a safe work environment.
• Travel to project sites throughout North and South Carolina as required.

Travel Requirements

• Most work is performed throughout North and South Carolina.
• Occasional overnight travel is required.
• Typical travel schedules are limited to Monday through Thursday, allowing employees to be home most weekends.
• No weekend work or after-hours shifts are generally required.

Qualifications

1. Strong Mechanical Aptitude

Demonstrated ability to understand, troubleshoot, and work with mechanical equipment, tools, and systems. Experience in automotive, farming, maintenance, construction, manufacturing, or similar hands-on fields is highly valued.

2. Dependable Work Ethic

Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of consistently delivering quality work with minimal supervision. Maintains a professional attitude and arrives on time and prepared for assignments.

3. Willingness to Learn

Eager to develop new technical skills and build a career in HVAC Testing, Adjusting, Balancing (TAB), and Commissioning. Able to learn from experienced field engineers and apply training in the field.

4. Strong Problem-Solving Skills

Able to observe equipment operation, identify issues, and think logically when evaluating mechanical systems and field conditions.

5. Excellent Communication and Technology Skills

Capable of accurately documenting findings, using mobile devices and digital reporting tools, and communicating effectively with team members, clients, and contractors.

6. Valid Driver's License and Ability to Travel

• Possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Willing to travel throughout North and South Carolina as required.

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
