About the Opportunity

A growing, privately held organization with multiple operating entities is seeking a Payroll Accountant to join its accounting team in Scottsdale, Arizona. This position offers an outstanding blend of professional growth, work-life balance, and a flexible, employee-focused culture.

Reporting directly to the Controller, the Payroll Accountant will play a key role in payroll processing, account reconciliations, compliance, and financial reporting across multiple entities.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing

• Process bi-weekly payroll for multiple entities
• Collect, review, and verify employee timecards
• Process tips, commissions, incentives, reimbursements, and benefit deductions
• Partner with HR to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance

Payroll Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare payroll-related reports for multiple entities
• Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation
• Record payroll expenses and liabilities within the accounting system
• Manage intercompany payroll allocations and related transactions
• Maintain and process 401(k), FSA, and agency payment reporting

Reconciliations

• Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies
• Reconcile benefit invoices to payroll deductions
• Reconcile 401(k), FSA, and other payroll liabilities

Compliance & Audit Support

• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Support financial audits and payroll-related reviews
• Assist with workers' compensation audits
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required
• 2+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Payroll accounting experience required
• Strong reconciliation and analytical skills
• Exceptional organizational and time management abilities
• Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism and discretion
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
• Experience with QuickBooks Online preferred
• Ability to thrive in a dynamic, multi-entity environment
