Solutions Architect (Supply Chain)

About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Solution Architect to work for our client within the Retail sector. This is a Fixed-term contract role based in London.

Our client, a major UK retailer, is undergoing significant transformation across its Supply Chain technology estate.

The successful candidate will lead and shape solution architecture across supply chain capabilities - spanning inventory, stock movements, replenishment and store operations - working closely with Product, Engineering, Business and Domain Architecture teams to define end-to-end and transition architectures that support ongoing modernisation and legacy decommissioning.

This is a role that spans both strategic design and hands-on delivery: shaping roadmaps and key design decisions while producing designs detailed enough for engineering teams to build from directly.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end solution architectures, transition architectures and key design decisions across Supply Chain capabilities
• Optimise solution design across applications, delivering flexible designs at sufficient detail for engineering teams to progress delivery
• Guide application modernisation and legacy decommissioning activities
• Shape integration, API and event-driven architecture and data flows across the supply chain estate
• Produce architecture impact assessments and ensure alignment to architecture principles, standards, security requirements and North Star strategies
• Research and identify emerging technology opportunities to enhance technical delivery
• Collaborate with information governance, information security and operations communities to ensure consistent, effective solution integration
• Partner with Product Managers to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Produce clear architectural artefacts, simplifying complex technology decisions for stakeholders at all levels

About You

• Proven track record designing large-scale enterprise solutions within retail or supply chain domains - supply chain domain knowledge is prioritised over specific systems experience
• Strong experience with Microservices Architecture, APIs and Event-Driven Architecture
• Cloud architecture experience across AWS, Azure or GCP, including serverless architecture
• Comfortable working across both modern cloud and traditional legacy architecture
• Sound understanding of patterns for distributed systems stability and reliability
• Strong grasp of Agile delivery, ways of working, and how they translate into business value
• Experience guiding transformation programmes and technology modernisation initiatives
• Comfortable managing stakeholders at all levels and driving alignment through influence
