The Department of Physics is looking to recruit a Laser Safety Officer. The postholder will play a key role in laser management in the Department of Physics, providing expert safety guidance and support for lasers in research and teaching activities in the department. You will be experienced in laser-based equipment, techniques and processes.
The role will be to manage and deliver the departmental laser safety management programme.
This will include advising on laser risk assessments and lab local rules, alignment procedures, delivering laser safety training, advising on equipment purchases, coordinating and reviewing laser safety activities across the research groups and teaching activities, representing Physics at relevant committees, and advising the Head of Department Office on current best practices in laser use and safety.
You will work on a range of projects supporting the research groups and teaching laboratories in the Department of Physics.
The focus will be on overseeing the safety management of all lasers in the department of Physics. You will be a central point of expertise, creating a unified understanding of the department's laser safety requirements and resources.
