Analyst, Research

The Canada Infrastructure Bank is seeking an Analyst, Research to join their Toronto-based team. The role involves conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, drafting research products, and engaging with stakeholders to support infrastructure investment initiatives. Candidates should have strong analytical skills and experience in relevant sectors.

This position is integral to the CIB's mission of enhancing infrastructure planning and financing in Canada.

Headquartered in Toronto, the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) is responsible for investing in new infrastructure projects. The CIB’s mission is to work with provincial, territorial, municipal, federal, Indigenous and private sector investor partners to transform the way infrastructure is planned, financed and delivered in Canada.

The Analyst, Research, will be based in Toronto and will join the CIB’s research team.

As a key member of this growing team, this role’s daily responsibilities will touch every aspect of the CIB’s research program, including drafting and writing research products; conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses; developing strategies to support stakeholder outreach and communications; conducting interviews and engagements with members of the CIB’s sector teams and external stakeholders; and, tracking and assessing the success of research projects.

This role will work directly with the Senior Manager, Research, and senior stakeholders across the CIB, often co-authoring high-impact projects. The ideal candidate has strong analytical and writing skills, produces high quality work as both an independent contributor and member of a project team, and is excited about working on a wide variety of topics and questions material to the success of the CIB.

Your responsibilities include

• Work closely with the CIB’s research, strategy and investments teams to identify both barriers holding back infrastructure projects and opportunities for driving greater investment
• Conduct economic and financial analysis for projects that estimate investment needs, determine the impacts of policies on a project’s economics, identify the distribution of costs and benefits, as well as quantify the impacts of market barriers/risks across a range of sectors, to name only a few objectives
• Collect and analyze qualitative research through methodologies such as interviews, roundtables and other internal/external engagement events
• Draft and write content for reports, white papers, scoping notes and briefing notes, communicating to a wide range of audiences
• Convey findings creatively through data visualization and analysis, including charts, tables, dashboards, GIS maps and other tools
• Manage research products through every phase of development and publication, from inception and scoping to publication and evaluation of performance
• Contribute to the ongoing development of the CIB’s impact-focused research program, offering ideas, perspectives and insights to help the program achieve its aims and continuously improve the quality of its outputs and processes over time

Your ideal profile

• Motivation to contribute to the CIB’s strategic vision of developing key infrastructure projects in Canada to deliver outcomes such as sustainable economic growth, connected communities and climate change action
• Experience conducting high quality, high-impact research and/or analysis in at least two of the CIB’s priority sectors, which include clean power, green infrastructure, housing-enabling infrastructure, trade and transportation, public transit and broadband; additional research experience in emerging economic sectors in Canada, an asset
• Undergraduate and/or Masters degree in Economics, Public Policy, Business, Finance or topics relevant for impact investment in infrastructure
• One to three years of relevant experience, such as in research, consulting, public policy, finance or research/analytics
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including financial and economic analysis, policy analysis, market research and economic/financial modelling
• Strong experience with Excel and PowerPoint, with additional experience in statistical software, an asset
• Strong writer and communicator with experience crafting narratives and using data visualization to share insights; additional experience communicating research findings to businesses and economic audiences outside of an academic setting, an asset
• Ability to work both independently on components of research analysis and collaborate on projects as part of the broader research team, often at the same time
• Open and excited about learning and working on a variety of files and sectors across the CIB mandate
• Knowledge of government, Crown corporations and infrastructure priorities
• Bilingualism (English and French), an asset (training can be provided)
