Junior Planner - Policy - (26-183)

Under the direction of the Senior Project Manager, Policy, the Junior Planner- Policy will support a range of policy planning initiatives that advance the Town’s housing, growth management, and long-range planning objectives.

Working closely with the Senior Project Manager and Intermediate Planner, this position will contribute to key strategic projects, including the Housing Action Plan, Official Plan Review, Residential Parking Study, and related policy and engagement work.

Job Requirements

• Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning or related discipline combined with some experience in a municipal planning, policy development research or related filed or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Eligibility for, or membership in, the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) is preferred.
• Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear materials for a range of audiences.
• Familiarity with public consultation, partner engagement, GIS, Canva, and other visualization tools is an asset.
• Sound knowledge in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe Professional (i.e., manipulate PDFs) and Accessible Documents.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively and courteously with elected officials, all levels of staff, external government agencies, the development community, and the public, with the ability to respect confidentiality.
• Demonstrated ability to management multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Knowledge of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute Professional Code of Practice.
• Good knowledge of planning principles.
• Ability to organize, shift priorities and work independently.
