The role

This is a full-time hybrid role based in Poynton, Cheshire, with flexibility for working from home part-time. You will design, develop, and maintain mobile applications that support GoShorty’s digital insurance offerings, ensuring high performance and a seamless user experience.

Day-to-day responsibilities include implementing new features, integrating backend services and APIs, optimizing app performance, and collaborating with product, design, and backend teams to deliver secure and reliable solutions.

The role also involves troubleshooting and resolving technical issues, contributing to code reviews, and participating in the continuous improvement of development practices and architecture.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of our customer-facing native apps, working closely with our digital product owner, wider technology team, and ultimately the insurance product owners.

Key responsibilities

• Work with multi-disciplinary teams to design, develop and maintain our customer-facing mobile apps.
• Write clean, maintainable code in line with our engineering standards and business requirements.
• Document code, processes and operating procedures related to the design, implementation and functionality of our apps.
• Work with the wider development team and test engineers to enable automated testing across our apps and the wider technology estate.
• Participate in agile ceremonies to maintain our backlogs, size tasks, plan sprints, and learn lessons.
• Focus on quality and “right first time” deployment and proactively identify problems and table practical and appropriate solutions in a timely way.

Skills and Experience

You are a highly motivated, team oriented and technically excellent multi-platform app developer with at least 3 years’ experience working in a fast-paced customer facing business.

Key experiences and capabilities

• Strong skills in software development and programming, with hands-on experience building Flutter applications for iOS and Android.
• Knowledge of databases and data modelling, including integrating mobile apps with backend data services and RESTful APIs.
• Experience with integration of third-party services, payment gateways, authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Proven expertise in Flutter (Dart) and/or frameworks such as SwiftUI, UIKit, Core Data and Apple’s design principles.
• Ability to write clean, testable, maintainable code and use version control systems such as Git.
• Experience in submitting, maintaining and releasing apps on Google and Apple app stores.
• Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams.
• Relevant degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; prior insurtech or fintech experience is a plus.
