About the Role

CSMC is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern to support infrastructure, facilities, and future structural engineering initiatives.

Initially, the successful candidate will assist with planning and execution activities related to improvements and expansion of CSMC's Waterloo facilities. As the internship progresses, there will be opportunities to contribute to engineering studies, infrastructure planning, and research related to structural systems, containment concepts, and advanced energy facilities.

This role is ideal for a student interested in developing toward a future career in structural engineering, industrial infrastructure, containment systems, or advanced energy projects.

Responsibilities

Facilities & Infrastructure

• Support office and facility renovation projects.
• Assist with space planning and workspace development.
• Coordinate information between contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
• Review drawings, obtain quotes, and track project progress.
• Conduct site measurements and facility assessments.
• Support project schedules, budgets, and reporting.

Engineering & Technical Projects

• Support structural and infrastructure-related engineering studies.
• Assist with research into industrial facilities, containment systems, and advanced energy infrastructure.
• Review applicable standards, codes, and technical references.
• Contribute to conceptual layouts, technical evaluations, and engineering documentation.
• Support feasibility studies and early-stage engineering initiatives.

Project Coordination

• Track project milestones and action items.
• Support communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Assist with reports, presentations, and project documentation.

Qualifications

Required

• MUST CURRENTLY BE PURSUING A DEGREE IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:
• Civil Engineering
• Structural Engineering
• Civil & Environmental Engineering
• Architectural Engineering
• Building Engineering
• Or a closely related discipline
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.

Preferred

• Coursework or project experience in:
• Structural Analysis
• Steel Design
• Concrete Design
• Infrastructure Design
• Construction Engineering
• Finite Element Analysis
• Familiarity with software such as:
• AutoCAD
• Revit
• Civil 3D
• SAP2000
• ETABS
• STAAD Pro
• SolidWorks
• Experience reading engineering drawings and construction documentation.
• Interest in advanced energy, nuclear, defence, space, or industrial infrastructure projects.
• Previous internship, research, design team, or construction-related experience is an asset.
