A growing national advisory firm is seeking a commercially minded Managing Director to play a pivotal role in both business development and client delivery. This position is ideal for a senior leader who has built a strong professional network, enjoys creating new business opportunities, and thrives in front of CFOs, Controllers, Audit Committees, and executive leadership teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for expanding market presence, developing strategic client relationships, generating new revenue opportunities, and leading high-profile accounting and finance advisory engagements across a diverse client base ranging from high-growth companies to large public enterprises.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development & Market Growth
- Serve as a key driver of practice growth by developing new client relationships and expanding existing accounts.
- Leverage an established network of executives, private equity professionals, attorneys, investment bankers, lenders, and other referral sources to generate new business opportunities.
- Identify, pursue, and close advisory engagements across technical accounting, financial reporting, transaction support, and finance transformation services.
- Develop and execute relationship-building strategies that create long-term client partnerships.
- Lead proposal development, client presentations, and solution discussions with executive stakeholders.
- Represent the firm at industry events, professional associations, networking functions, and thought leadership forums.
- Actively participate in shaping go-to-market strategies and identifying new areas for growth.
- Partner with senior leadership to expand market share and strengthen the firm's industry presence.
Executive Client Advisory
- Serve as a trusted advisor to CFOs, Controllers, Boards, Audit Committees, and executive leadership teams.
- Provide guidance on complex accounting, financial reporting, and transaction-related matters.
- Advise clients through significant corporate events including IPOs, M&A transactions, divestitures, capital markets activities, and strategic business initiatives.
- Deliver practical solutions to complex technical accounting and regulatory challenges.
Engagement Leadership
- Maintain overall responsibility for the successful delivery of client engagements from scoping through completion.
- Lead multiple large-scale engagements simultaneously while ensuring exceptional client service and delivery quality.
- Manage project economics, resource planning, timelines, and client expectations.
- Oversee engagement teams and provide leadership on highly technical accounting matters.
- Ensure projects are executed efficiently and delivered to the highest professional standards.
Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting Expertise
- Advise clients on the application of U.S. GAAP and evolving accounting guidance.
- Support the preparation and review of financial statements and external reporting requirements.
- Provide expertise related to SEC reporting and filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q, S-1, and S-4.
- Assist clients with accounting considerations related to complex transactions and business events.
- Guide organizations through new accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and reporting challenges.
Leadership, Mentorship & Practice Development
- Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain high-performing professionals across the organization.
- Foster a culture centered on collaboration, accountability, technical excellence, and client service.
- Lead training initiatives and provide coaching on technical accounting matters and industry best practices.
- Contribute to thought leadership, internal practice development initiatives, and firm-wide strategic priorities.
- Help shape the next generation of finance and accounting advisory leaders.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Commerce, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree preferred.
- 14+ years of progressive experience in accounting, finance, consulting, or advisory services.
- Previous experience with a Big 4 accounting firm required.
- Deep technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SEC reporting, and complex financial transactions.
