Downrite Engineering is an established underground utility and sitework contractor delivering deep sanitary sewer, water main, storm drainage, roadway, and concrete improvements across South Florida. Our crews build the infrastructure behind residential communities, logistics parks, and commercial developments.

We are looking for an experienced Survey Party Chief to lead a field crew and own the accuracy of our layout and as-built data.

The Role

The Survey Party Chief runs a construction survey crew in the field and is the person the entire project relies on for correct line and grade. You'll establish control, stake and lay out deep sanitary sewer, water main, storm drainage, roadway, and sitework, and collect the as-built data that gets our work accepted by the engineer and the utility agency.

You are responsible for the accuracy of what you set and what you record — a bad stake or a bad shot costs real money in the field, and this seat is where that gets prevented.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a survey crew in the field; direct the instrument person and rodman and manage daily production.
• Establish and verify horizontal and vertical control; check into benchmarks and control points.
• Perform construction layout for deep sewer, water main, force main, storm drainage, roadway, curb and gutter, sidewalks, and sitework.
• Set line, grade, offsets, hubs, cut sheets, and stringline for pipe and concrete crews.
• Verify inverts, rim elevations, slopes, and structure locations against plan before and during installation.
• Collect as-built data on installed utilities and structures; record accurate elevations, coordinates, and tie-ins.
• Prepare and deliver as-built and record drawing information for engineer and agency review (WASD/MDWASD, county utilities, FDOT).
• Operate and maintain GPS/GNSS rovers and base stations, robotic total stations, and digital levels.
• Download, process, and manage field data; keep clean, organized field notes and daily records.
• Coordinate closely with foremen, superintendents, and project managers on schedule, priorities, and field changes.
• Identify and flag plan conflicts, discrepancies, and utility conflicts before they become field problems.
• Follow all jobsite and work-zone safety procedures, including near open excavations and live traffic.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of construction survey experience, with proven time running a crew as party chief.
• Strong construction layout experience on underground utilities and sitework — sewer, water, and drainage.
• Proficient with GPS/GNSS equipment.
• Able to read and interpret civil plans, profiles, and utility details.
• Experience collecting as-built data and preparing record information.
• Accurate, organized, and accountable for the quality of field data.
• Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience producing agency as-built deliverables (WASD/MDWASD, county utilities, FDOT).
• Proficiency with Leica field software and data collectors.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Physical Requirements

• Able to work outdoors in South Florida heat and weather year-round.
• Able to walk active construction sites over uneven ground and near open excavations.
• Able to carry survey equipment and work around heavy equipment and live traffic.

Pay: $1,200.00 - $1,400.00 per week
