High school math teachers instruct students in mathematics concepts, including algebra, calculus, and geometry. This position plans daily lessons and creates a strategy to ensure that students learn the necessary concepts throughout the academic year. Qualified math teachers should be competent at organizing and delivering educational curricula to groups of students effectively.
A Math Teacher must understand the fundamentals of their teaching subject and be able to explain them to students as needed. The Math Teacher is to teach students how to solve problems, reason quantitatively and abstractly, and model mathematics. In this role, you will create lesson plans and deliver instruction to High School students.
The role of a math teacher is to inspire, motivate, encourage, and educate learners. This position will participate in activities beyond the school day, including faculty meetings, campus event nights, and before- or after-school tutorials.
Teach students how to apply mathematical principles to solve problems, including equations, word problems, statistics, and binomials.
Teach students the language of math.
Create instructional resources for use in the classroom.
Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities.
Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in.
Meet course and school-wide student performance goals.
Participate in ongoing training sessions.
Create lesson plans and modify them accordingly throughout the year.
Integrate competencies, goals, and objects into lesson plans.
Utilize curricula that reflect students' diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds served.
Tutor students on an individual basis.
Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
Observe and evaluate student’s performance.
Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
Engage students in the learning process.
Develop a curriculum to meet developmental goals and instructional activities.
Exercise open and respectful communication with students.
Measure students' progress and accomplishments toward their academic achievements on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
Attend workshops and training to advance professional development further.
At least three (3) years’ teaching experience in a Texas Public or Charter School.
Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
Degree in Education, with a focus on mathematics.
Valid Texas Certification in your area of instruction.
