JOB TITLE: Entry-Level Mechanical HVAC Engineer

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer will support the design and development of HVAC systems in industrial environments.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced heating and cooling load calculations using Elite software.
• Develop equipment selection specifications during the estimating and Engineering phases.
• Request and review quotes for equipment for new estimates.
• Edit specifications to reflect the project requirements. Verify compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards/practices.
• Understand fan curves to select equipment for application properly.
• Use the psychrometric chart properly for any HVAC system.
• Meet with vendors to determine specification requirements for application.
• Coordinate with other disciplines (plum, arch, struct, etc.) for all HVAC details.
• Generate and/or respond to RFI’s for the project and accurately review submittals.
• Understand the proper scope of IFA and IFC level documents and deliver appropriate documentation.
• Modify or write sequences of operations for systems.
• Understand both constant and variable flow systems and correctly apply equipment selection.
• Review shop drawings.
• Review of contractor product submittals
• Ability to multi-task and oversee multiple projects in different design and construction phases.
• Provide necessary documents to Design Supervisors and Project Managers regarding contract changes, equipment buyouts, and change orders as requested.
• Attends department progress meetings and kickoff meetings as needed.
• Attends meetings in person or via teleconference in a professional manner.
• Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy. Identify discrepancies in results.
• Management of multiple concurrent project deadlines
• Perform studies to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of design alternatives and recommend alternatives for implementation.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

• Proficient in reading and understanding architectural, mechanical, and structural drawings.
• Comply with equipment manufacturer installation requirements once receiving that document (coils piping, condensate drains, etc.)
• Transform ductwork sizes to an equivalent duct size when needed (familiar with duct calculator)
• Good organization and communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to handle several jobs at one time.
• Possess problem-solving abilities.
• Knowledge of ASHRAE Standards and Building and Fire Codes (IBC, IFC, IPC, and NFPA). Preferred but not required.
• Experience/Knowledge with the design of air handling systems (100% outside air, recirculating, exhaust systems, dust collection) Preferred but not required.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
• Prior internship experience preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.
