Job Title: Microscopist

Job Description

This role focuses on operating advanced microscopy equipment, including a 3D laser scanning microscope, to support manufacturing and quality control activities for biosensors. The microscopist assembles, catalogs, images, and prepares biosensors for evaluation while recording sensor data and supporting solution preparation for testing.

The position plays a key role in incoming inspection and quality assurance in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Operate microscopes, including 3D laser scanning microscopes, to inspect and evaluate biosensors and related components.
• Assemble, catalog, image, and prepare biosensors for evaluation and testing activities.
• Record sensor data accurately and consistently to support the manufacturing team and quality control processes.
• Perform incoming inspection of parts and components, conducting pass/fail assessments and documenting results.
• Prepare solutions and materials required for different testing activities in accordance with established protocols.
• Maintain microscopes and related equipment, including preparation, calibration, and routine upkeep to ensure optimal performance.
• Follow stringent quality control measures and standard operating procedures to improve consistency and reliability of results.
• Work within a regulated environment, adhering to all relevant documentation and compliance requirements.
• Complete documentation accurately and thoroughly to support traceability and quality assurance records.
• Perform repetitive inspection and quality control tasks with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
• Collaborate with the manufacturing and quality teams to support ongoing production and process improvements.
• Adapt to additional responsibilities over time as the role grows and the organization expands its manufacturing capacity.

Essential Skills

• Previous experience operating a microscope in different environments.
• Experience using a 3D laser scanning microscope or similar advanced microscopy equipment.
• Ability to work effectively in a regulated environment and follow established procedures.
• Demonstrated ability and experience following stringent quality control measures to improve consistency.
• Experience performing inspection and quality assurance tasks, including pass/fail assessments.
• Strong documentation skills with the ability to complete records accurately and thoroughly.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Experience in medical, biotech, or microscopy-related settings.
• High attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive tasks with consistent accuracy.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Some laboratory, medical or biotechnology manufacturing environments.
• Familiarity with quality assurance processes and incoming inspection workflows.
• Comfort working with biosensors or similar precision components.
• Ability to support preparation of solutions and materials for testing activities.
• Willingness to take on additional responsibilities as the role and organization grow.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, on-site role with a typical schedule of either 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., depending on daily work needs. The position is based in a regulated biotech and manufacturing environment that involves working with microscopes, including 3D laser scanning microscopes, and handling biosensors and related components.

The work is hands-on, involving repetitive inspection, quality control activities, and solution preparation in a laboratory and production setting. The role is expected to remain full time and may expand over time to include additional responsibilities as the organization increases its manufacturing capacity.

This is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr.
