Math Instructor

OVERVIEW

The Mathnasium Instructor is responsible for delivering mathematical instruction to students using the Mathnasium Method™. Instructors are committed to providing exceptional customer service while meeting each student's individual learning needs. Our instructors help students build confidence and self-esteem through positive interactions and successful learning experiences.

The Instructor works as part of a collaborative team and contributes to a fun, engaging, and supportive learning environment. This position reports directly to the Center Director.

REQUIREMENTS

Math Expertise

Instructors must be passionate about mathematics and possess strong skills through at least Algebra II and Geometry.

Instructors who work with high school students should also excel in higher-level mathematics, including Trigonometry, Precalculus, and Calculus. Experience with SAT/ACT Math or Physics is a plus.

All instructors must be willing to successfully complete training and apply new skills while teaching the Mathnasium way.

Engaging

Instructors should enjoy working with students and be able to inspire confidence and enthusiasm for learning math. Successful instructors establish strong relationships with students and create a fun, encouraging learning environment.

Facilitator

Instructors must be able to move easily from one student to another and keep track of multiple instructional lessons occurring simultaneously. They should evaluate and document student progress, provide constructive feedback, and use positive reinforcement techniques that build confidence in mathematics.

Professional

Instructors must interact with parents, students, and coworkers in a friendly and professional manner at all times. Instructors are expected to be dependable, demonstrate initiative, and serve as positive role models for students.

AVAILABILITY

• Maintain availability for at least two days per week.
• Typical shifts are 3–4 hours.
• Afternoon, evening, and Sunday availability is preferred.

TRAINING

All instructors must successfully complete Mathnasium training modules, accompanying assignments, and instructional practice shifts within one month of being hired.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Responsibilities

• Teach using Mathnasium methodology and terminology.
• Encourage, motivate, and engage students during instructional sessions.
• Evaluate and document student progress.
• Correct student work and provide positive, constructive feedback.
• Maintain student attention and redirect distracted students appropriately.
• Manage student behavior to create a positive learning environment.
• Communicate student needs to center leadership and instructional staff.
• Assist with curriculum preparation and other duties as assigned.

Professional Responsibilities

• Conduct yourself in a friendly, responsible, and professional manner whenever representing Mathnasium.
• Be reliable by showing up on time and following through on commitments.
• Maintain good availability and communicate schedule changes promptly.
• Continuously strive to become an exceptional instructor.
• Demonstrate retention of information learned during training and staff meetings.
• Effectively collaborate within a team-teaching environment.

Academic Responsibilities

• Use Mathnasium teaching constructs and terminology.
• Adjust explanations when a student needs a different approach.
• Build on prerequisite knowledge when necessary and extend learning when appropriate.
• Praise, encourage, and constructively guide students.
• Use Socratic questioning and direct instruction when appropriate.
• Encourage mental math and mathematical reasoning.
• Effectively manage each student's visit and learning experience.

Customer Service Responsibilities

• Greet students and families in a friendly and professional manner.
• Monitor the center environment to ensure student safety.
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate the value of Mathnasium to families.

Housekeeping Responsibilities

• Assist students in maintaining properly organized binders and materials.
• Maintain a clean, organized teaching area throughout each shift.
• Dispose of individual trash and materials before leaving for the day.
• Participate in shared center responsibilities, including a rotating schedule for vacuuming and general center upkeep.
• Contribute to maintaining a welcoming, professional, and organized learning environment by completing instructor checklists as required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
