The Role

We are hiring a Field Superintendent / Foreman to serve as a field leader on federal design-build projects in the San Diego, CA area. We are specifically seeking a seasoned general-construction professional — a journeyman-level carpenter or broad multi-trade builder — who can bring hands-on trade expertise to the field leadership role.

In addition to leading projects, you'll be the person who can pick up incidental general scopes — patch-back, paint, drywall, doors and hardware, finishes, minor demolition — when self-performing is faster or more cost-effective than mobilizing a sub.

Just as importantly, your trade knowledge becomes a resource our estimating team leans on: sanity-checking bids, pricing self-perform work, and helping us develop realistic internal numbers on pursuits where subcontractor coverage is thin.

This is a ground-floor opportunity to help build a capability at a growing federal contractor — not a role where you'll be one of fifty tradespeople on a mega-project. Work is anticipated to be primarily in San Diego County. Some projects may require temporary assignment to other federal installations in California or nationally; per diem and a company or rental vehicle are provided for out-of-area assignments.

Primary Responsibilities

Field Leadership (Superintendent)

• Manage day-to-day construction operations on federal design-build projects at Naval Base San Diego, Naval Base Point Loma, NAS North Island, Naval Base Coronado, and other federal installations
• Coordinate and oversee trade subcontractors, ensuring work is performed per contract specifications, approved submittals, and applicable codes (NEC, NFPA 72, NFPA 13, UFC)
• Manage project schedule, subcontractor sequencing, and Government interface
• Support the three-phase QC inspection system (preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections) per UFGS 01 45 00.00 10 for each definable feature of work
• Maintain daily field reports, inspection logs, and project documentation
• Coordinate with the Project Manager on schedule status, cost tracking, and Government correspondence
• Identify and escalate field issues, differing site conditions, and potential change-order items promptly

Self-Performed Scopes & Estimating Support

• Execute or supervise incidental self-perform work — patch-back, paint, drywall, finishes, doors/hardware, minor demolition — where it is cost-effective and schedule-appropriate
• Serve as a trade-expertise resource to the estimating team: pricing self-perform scopes, reviewing subcontractor quotes for realism, and helping develop internal ROM numbers where sub coverage is limited

Safety (SSHO-capable, assigned per project)

• When assigned as SSHO: execute the site safety program per EM 385-1-1, review and approve Activity Hazard Analyses, conduct daily safety inspections, and manage incident reporting
• Maintain current OSHA 30-hour and EM 385-1-1 40-hour certifications

Required Qualifications

• Journeyman-level carpentry or broad general-construction / multi-trade background
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on commercial, industrial, or federal construction experience
• Experience in a field leadership role — superintendent, foreman, or site lead — on projects valued at $500,000 or more
• Working knowledge of applicable building codes and the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
• OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire — training paid by company)
• EM 385-1-1 40-hour certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire — training paid by company)
• Valid driver's license and ability to pass a federal background check for military installation access (DBIDS)
• U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status (required for unescorted access to federal facilities)

Preferred Qualifications

• Residence in a HUBZone-qualified census tract. RX3 is a certified HUBZone small business, and employees who reside in HUBZone-qualified areas help the company maintain its certification — critical to our federal contracting eligibility. HUBZone-qualified areas in the San Diego metro include National City, southeastern San Diego (Encanto, Lincoln Park, Valencia Park), western Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and San Ysidro. • Experience on NAVFAC, USACE, or other federal agency construction projects
• Experience with the USACE/NAVFAC three-phase QC system (UFGS 01 45 00.00 10)
• SSHO experience with EM 385-1-1 compliance on federal sites
• Davis-Bacon / prevailing-wage project experience
• Multi-trade breadth and hands-on experience self-performing finishes, carpentry, or general scopes
• Experience on fire protection or fire alarm system projects
• Estimating or quantity-takeoff experience

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive salary of $85,000–$105,000 depending on experience, plus a performance-based bonus
