Affordable Housing Lending Associate Attorney

Winthrop & Weinstine has an excellent opportunity for a lending attorney in its affordable housing lending practice. This practice serves a very active and growing bank making loans to develop affordable multifamily housing across the country. We provide training in all the relevant substantive legal areas and provide support in learning the process involved in closing a loan.

Attorneys get immediate client interaction and quickly earn the responsibility of managing the loan process and building their own rewarding relationships with the lenders involved. Attorneys are supported by senior experienced attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants, all of whom have a role in each loan transaction.

Attorneys experience a wealth of steady work, manage multiple loan transactions at a brisk pace, and interact with many of the major affordable housing developers across the country. This is a partner track position, with significant financial and professional upside.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS INCLUDE

• Draft client loan documents: Draft, review, and revise all necessary legal documents for clients, ensuring they meet legal standards, regulatory requirements and any client-required terms and conditions.
• Review real estate and organizational due diligence related to the projects: Analyze property- and entity-related due diligence to confirm legal compliance, assess transaction risks, and support the successful acquisition, financing, and development.
• Manage multiple transactions and deadlines: Coordinate with lenders, borrowers, developers, title companies, and outside counsel to ensure timely satisfaction of closing requirements.
• Client & Team Communication: Maintain consistent and clear communication with clients and internal partners about the progress and status of assigned matters, ensuring all parties are informed.

QUALIFICATIONS, REQUIRED

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Minnesota, or eligible for admission to the Minnesota Bar within a specified period after hire.

QUALIFICATIONS, PREFERRED

• Zero to three years (0-3) of experience.
• Prior lending or real estate transaction experience is a plus.
• Solid academic credentials.

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Primarily will be working in person in the Minneapolis office. Working remote is available only on a limited basis.
• Requires use of office equipment, such as computers, phones, and copiers.
• Requires sitting and computer-related activities for extended periods of time.
• Requires occasional lifting up to and exceeding 20 pounds.
• Work may require more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.

Salary & Benefits

Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $200,000 - $260,000 annually.

Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Winthrop & Weinstine reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
