General Manager, ITASCA Software (Minneapolis, MN)

About The Role

ITASCA is seeking a dynamic, results-driven General Manager to lead ITASCA Software — our business unit dedicated to the development, marketing, and sale of geomechanical and hydrogeological software. This is a rare opportunity to combine leadership and business acumen with technical depth, driving sustainable growth while building a high-performing, collaborative culture.

The GM holds full P&L ownership and overall responsibility for the operation of ITASCA Software, including finances, business development, and staff, while serving as an external ambassador for the business.

With the right leader in place, we expect to double the business over the next three to five years — continuing our shift to subscription-based licensing and expanding into new markets by making our core software more accessible without compromising technical excellence.

This role reports to the CEO of ITASCA International, Inc., partners closely with the CTO, and works hand-in-hand with the Development and Sales & Marketing teams, as well as ITASCA's consulting offices worldwide.

What You'll Do

Leadership & Management

• Lead technical and supporting staff across software development, marketing, and sales.
• Own the finances and investments of ITASCA Software.
• Lead with integrity and fairness, fostering an inclusive, motivated team environment.
• Continue to drive the transition to a modern, subscription-based licensing strategy and lead the change management it requires.
• Conduct regular staff meetings, annual performance reviews, and salary discussions; champion professional development.
• Drive and manage annual KPI goals with all staff, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Build and maintain a positive, high-performing culture across ITASCA.
• Develop an employee retention strategy and recognize contributions through ITASCA's years-of-service program.
• Recruit top industry talent to grow and strengthen the team.
• Ensure compliance with applicable legal, financial, and administrative requirements.
• Report financial performance and provide updates to ITASCA International, Inc. and its Board of Directors.

Business Development, Growth Strategy & Oversight

• Set strategic direction, including reviewing and updating ITASCA Software's long-term growth strategy.
• Align technology investments with company goals to strengthen competitiveness.
• Lead R&D to build new products and services, driving expansion into existing and emerging markets.
• Provide oversight of sales and marketing to optimize pipeline generation and sales execution.
• Represent ITASCA Software at industry events, conferences, and workshops.
• Ensure product delivery meets the highest technical and financial standards.
• Ensure consulting services' needs are reflected in the software development roadmap.
• Champion innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning across the team.

What You Bring

• Degree in computer science, rock engineering, geomechanics, engineering geology, or a closely related field — or equivalent experience — plus documented business leadership training.
• Proven business acumen and leadership experience, with strong team development and coaching skills and the ability to inspire others through change.
• Strong initiative and commitment to technical excellence, with the ability to set strategic vision and bring new software products to market.
• A lifelong learner who drives a culture of continuous improvement.
• Experience growing a technology business within an established organization, including leading change management.
• Experience managing and developing a sales and marketing team.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills; multicultural experience working across levels and geographies.
• Experience in mining, civil, or energy industries — or consulting experience aligned with ITASCA's core practices — is a plus.
• Humble with high curiosity: comfortable operating alongside a larger, more established consulting business. Skilled at balancing internal dynamics — assertive enough to lead, diplomatic enough to avoid friction.
• Comfort with ambiguity — ITASCA is mid-transformation, and this leader will help shape the destination.
• A track record of personal growth and development.
• Citizenship or permanent residency in North America.

Salary

The anticipated starting base salary for this Minnesota-based role is $170,000–$215,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, and skill set.

Travel

Up to 10% travel to domestic and international conferences, events, and inter-company meetings, on a predictable schedule.

Location

Must be within commuting distance of ITASCA's Minneapolis office, with the majority of work performed on site. Relocation assistance is available.
