• W2 candidates are preferred; however, we are open to engaging subcontractors with local resources who are physically located in the Minneapolis/St. Paul South Metro and able to work onsite at the client’s location.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

VALERE is seeking a Senior Java Backend Developer for our large, ecommerce, enterprise-level client.

This role sits within the Fulfillment, Availability, and Button State team, which supports critical services across the client’s large retail and ecommerce platform. The team is responsible for powering fulfillment options such as shipping, delivery and installation, pickup, in-store services, and overall button state visibility across the site.

You’ll play a key role in building and enhancing highly scalable, performance-driven microservices that directly impact customer experience across digital and in-store channels.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Design, develop, and maintain microservices and J2EE applications using Java (8, 11, 17), Groovy, Spring Boot, and Spring JPA
• Build and configure RESTful services that produce and consume messages using Kafka, RabbitMQ, and GCP Pub/Sub
• Containerize applications using Docker and support local service spin-up
• Implement caching strategies using tools such as EHCache, Redis, or Memcached
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests using JUnit and Spock
• Monitor and improve code quality using SonarQube and Checkmarx
• Test APIs and services using Postman
• Support performance optimization, memory leak analysis, and production incident debugging
• Work with relational and NoSQL databases including Oracle and Cassandra
• Collaborate using GitHub for version control and CI/CD pipelines via GitHub Actions
• Operate comfortably in UNIX-based environments for development and configuration

WHAT YOU BRING

• 8–10 years of experience as a backend or full-stack developer (Level 4)
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring, RESTful services, and microservices architecture
• Hands-on experience with Kafka and cloud-based messaging systems (GCP preferred)
• Proven experience implementing caching and performance-first development practices
• Solid understanding of Cassandra and distributed data systems
• Experience debugging complex production issues, including memory leaks
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing

Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and tools
