Teacher Assistant (TA) & Personal Needs Assistant (PNA) - 6th-12th Grade

Job Summary

Here at Jackson Day School, we are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and student-focused Teacher Assistant (TA) & Personal Needs Assistant (PNA) to support students in grades 6–12. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with adolescents and a commitment to helping all students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

This position plays an essential role in supporting classroom instruction while providing individualized assistance to students with personal, behavioral, and academic needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist classroom teachers with daily instruction and classroom activities.
• Work one-on-one and in small groups to reinforce academic concepts and support student learning.
• Provide individualized assistance to students with disabilities or additional support needs in accordance with their educational plans.
• Assist students with personal care needs, including mobility, hygiene, feeding, or other daily living activities while maintaining student dignity and confidentiality.
• Support students during classroom transitions, lunch, electives, field trips, and other school activities.
• Help maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
• Implement behavior support strategies under the direction of teachers and administration.
• Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom organization.
• Monitor student progress and communicate observations with teachers and support staff.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, therapists, and administrators to meet individual student needs.
• Promote student independence, self-confidence, and positive peer interactions.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of students and the school community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or college coursework preferred.
• Previous experience working with children or adolescents in an educational or childcare setting preferred.
• Experience supporting students with disabilities or special needs is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and flexible in a dynamic school environment.
• Ability to assist students with physical mobility and personal care needs when necessary.
• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus or willingness to obtain upon hire.

Experience

• Working with children or adolescents: 1 year (Preferred)
• Teaching Assistant, Personal Needs Assistant, or Special Education support: 1 year (Preferred)

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
